The Horror! The Horror (Comics, that is)!

Monster Crime!
Now that's a title!
Yeah, they knew what budding juvenile delinquents wanted back in the 1950s!

As you might have guessed, the upcoming Halloween holiday has inspired the Atomic Kommie Comics™ crew to add like mad to our Horror Comics of the 1950s™ section.
And, what titles did we add to our kool kollectibles kollection?
Besides the aforementioned Monster Crime, there's Tales of HorrorHorror from the Tomb (see a trend?), Beware! (with a fantastic Frank Frazetta cover!), and The Clutching Hand!
We already had The Hand of FateHorrific!Weird AdventuresBafflingChallenge of the UnknownTerror TalesHauntedThe BeyondWeird TerrorWeird MysteriesWeirdDiary of HorrorWitchCraft, and Eerie!
Plus collectibles with our ghoulishly-graphic, viscerally-vintage Horror Comics of the 1950s™ logo!
BTW: the Tote Bags featuring these designs would make GREAT trick-or-treat bags!
Be the envy of all the kids on your block this All Hallows Eve!

Spooky Space Force Saturdays KENTON OF THE STAR PATROL "Vampires of the Void"

Strap on your blasters and activate your ato-jets, kids...
Art by Joe Orlando and Wally Wood
...as we join our space-faring hero against gorgeous aliens who suck the life from humans!
Now that's a sci-fi horror tale...and illustrated by Wally Wood and Joe Orlando!
Gardner Fox scripted the story published in Avon's Strange Worlds #4 (1951) and it actually makes sense, given the scientific knowledge of the era.
Add a kool (if slightly misleading) cover by Wood and Orlando...and you've got a cult classic!
Hard to believe it's only been reprinted twice!
But...it has been re-told twice more!
What do we mean by that?

Frankenstein Friday Fun : ADVENTURES OF JERRY LEWIS "Scared Silly" Part 2

...he had rented a supposedly-haunted house for $12 a month.
It was "haunted"...by former horror movie stars Boris Killoff (Krankenstein), Bela Le Ghouli (Drinkula), and Peter Leery (Dog Boy), who were preparing for a return to the silver screen!
Explanation: We began this re-presentation of this never-reprinted tale in 2021 as shown HERE.
However, by the time next week rolled around, we ran a different Frankenstein tale, and never got around to running the other two chapters!
So here's Part 2, with Part 3 to follow next week!
Now, back to the story...
Who will trap whom?
See the inane answer...NEXT FRIDAY!
With the Comics Code limiting use of the classic monsters to humorous or decidedly non-threatening versions, DC decided work within those limits.
Jerry would go on to meet versions of the Mummy, Invisible Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon and other film and print fiction monsters.
And, fellow DC Comics comedian Bob Hope would end up with ongoing appearances by dopplegangers of Frankie (Coach Franklin Stein), Drac (Dr. Van Pyre)and Wolfy (Professor Von Wolfman) as the faculty of Benedict Arnold High School, which Hope's nephew attends!
That those other characters looked exactly like the trio of monsters in this story is attributable to the fact they share the same artist, Bob Oksner!

Reading Room AMAZING DETECTIVE CASES "Ghost Story"

Here's a never-reprinted 1950s tale...

... that's both about law enforcement and justice from beyond the grave!

You may note the Joe Maneely-illustrated cover doesn't really match the Bill Everett-rendered tale from Atlas' Amazing Detective Cases #13 (1952)
There are several possible reasons for that.
1) the cover and interior art were done at two different points in time, sometimes months apart!
2) The cover artist didn't have copies of the interior pages as visual reference, only plot descriptions from the editor!
3) the cover was done before the interior art as a "springboard" and the actual writer/artist(s) made changes when they were creating the story!
All three of these reasons could (and did) apply to Atlas Comics' books if the story's artist didn't do the cover...as was the case most of the time!
