Attack of the Ants, Man!

Got an unpleaseant surprise late last night, as we discovered an invasion of ants in the basement of our "final resting place" (as my significant other calls our new home)! It's been contained and almost eliminated, but we're not going to do the usual post today.

Friday Fun SPACE MOUSE "Great Electro"

Flash Gordon had Ming the Merciless...
...maybe this was Frank Carin's attempt to present an arch-enemy for Space Mouse!
This never-reprinted tale from Avon's Space Mouse #1 (1953) shows Carin had a fun, imaginative approach to this series which had the same science-fantasy "vibe" as Mighty Mouse...

JACKIE ROBINSON "Baseball Hero" Conclusion

Despite enduring pressure and situations that would've caused a lesser man to falter and give up, Jackie Robinson not only endures, but prospers!
His undeniable talent and skills begin to win over foes on and off the baseball diamond and an even greater joy awaits him at home...
Bonus: An ad from the comic promoting Jackie Robinson licensed products...
Imagine the reaction of racists who saw white kids wearing those items!
Written by Charles Dexter, and illustrated by an unknown artist (whom I suspect was Wayne [Superman] Boring), this book-length tale from Fawcett's Jackie Robinson (1949) detailed his life and career up to mid-1949, so it doesn't cover the even greater achievements yet to come...
Intended as a one-shot, it sold so well that it went to a bi-monthly series the next summer!
We're finishing the interrupted serialization this week in tribute to the legendary baseball player's 100th birthday!

In the service of Soltan Muzzafar, soldier-of-fortune Mick Taggart had rescued Jehan, a lovely Persian woman!

Don't ya hate when that happens?
Needless to say...

JACKIE ROBINSON "Baseball Hero" Part 3

Having proven himself one of the top players in the minor leagues, Jackie Robinson is called up to begin the 1947 season at Ebbets Field for the Brooklyn Dodgers!
Be Here Thursday When Jackie Welcomes an Addition to the Family and Hits (Literally) New Professional Highs!
Written by Charles Dexter, and illustrated by an unknown artist (whom I suspect was Wayne [Superman] Boring), this book-length tale from Fawcett's Jackie Robinson (1949) detailed his life and career up to mid-1949.
Intended as a one-shot, it sold so well that it went to a bi-monthly series the next summer!

Monday Madness ALICE "Super-Dooper Special"

We last saw the Tweedle Twins in their own strip...
...but this time around, they're guest-starring in Alice's feature!
Is Alice imagining she encountered the Tweedle Twins in this never-reprinted tale from Ziff-Davis' Alice #11 (1951)?
Since the duo had their own adventure in the previous issue without her (as shown HERE), I'd say that theory is blown away!
It's more likely she has an innate ability to travel to the parallel dimension where they, and slightly-wonky versions of other imaginary characters, including (but not limited to) Lewis Carroll's Wonderland characters, exist!
