Friday Fun with CoronaVirus Comics MAD "Microscopic Look at Modern-Day Bacteria"

Think our concerns about diseases and a possible plague are something new?
This never-reprinted feature from MAD Magazine #153 (1972) combines humor with medicine and politics!
Among those whom writers Max Brandel & Frank Jacobs and artist Bob Clarke skewer are President Richard Nixon (R), Vice-President Spiro Agnew (R), conservative Presidential candidate George Wallace (I), and the radical liberal Students for a Democratic Society!
(Google them if you're too young to remember!)

CoronaVirus Comics TWILIGHT ZONE "Plague"

Submitted for your approval...
...a tale so frightening, it couldn't be told on TV...but it did appear in comic books...only in...The Twilight Zone!
There wasn't a sequel to this never-reprinted story by writer Leo Dorfman and illustrator Joe Orlando (with an assist from Mike Sekowsky) from Gold Key's Twilight Zone #20 (1967)!
Perhaps it's best we never know,,,

Wednesday Worlds of Wonder PLANET OF VAMPIRES "Quest for Blood" Part 1

...as this never-reprinted tale of a virus-influenced year 2010 from Atlas' Planet of Vampires #2 (1975) demonstrates!
It's always fun to end a chapter with a BANG!
But LOTS more action awaits us...
With the departure of writer/co-creator Larry Hama (GI Joe), John Albano (Jonah Hex) stepped in to the scripting slot, working off Hama's basic plot for the issue as well as several pages already laid out by penciler/co-creator Pat Broderick.
It'a a well-done job, making the transition pretty seamless between the two writers.
Be here next week, as the astronauts and street people take the fight back to the virus-infected "domies"!
(Don't worry, Harsh Realm will return in the near-future!)

How the World Ends by Virus...

The 1970s post-apocalyptic flick The Omega Man offers a frighteningly-familiar scenario for 2020...
Scary, eh?
BTW, our "brother" RetroBlog, Secret Sanctum of Captain Video, is running the comics adaptation/spoof of the movie...

Monday Madness / CoronaVirus Comics STRANGE TALES "Germ Warfare"

You gotta admit...there's nothing "madder" than GIANT germs!
(and, yes, as our post yesterday pointed out, germs aren't viruses!)
If these people weren't irradiated by the bomb (fatally, if not enough to render them all sterile), it would be a miracle!
But can we blame plotter Stan Lee, writer Larry Lieber, and artist Paul Reinman from glossing over that minor point in a tale for 8-15 year-old kids?
Note: this story from Atlas' Strange Tales #90 (1961) has been reprinted, that reprint was in Marvel's Fantasy Masterpieces #6 (1967), so I'd say the 53-year gap since its' last publication was sufficient to justify running it!

CoronaVirus Comics PICTURE STORIES FROM SCIENCE "Man's Unseen Foe: the Story of Germs"

Here's an EC Comics tale that isn't designed to scare you...
...because it's from the pre-horror days when "Entertaining Comics" was "Educational Comics"!
Who sez comics can't teach ya nuthin'?
Certainly not writer Morris Nelson Sachs nor artist Don Cameron in this never-reprinted story from EC's Picture Stories from Science #2 (1947)!
They've just visually-presented the difference between bacteria, germs, and viruses (such as CoronaVirus)!
