Monday Mecha Madness SHOGUN WARRIORS "Downfall!" Conclusion

We Have Already Seen...

...the evil Maur-Kon has gained control of giant mecha Combatra V and is using it against the other Shogun Warriors!

Meanwhile, Combatra's unconscious pilot Genji is about to be sacrificed by Maur-Kon's assistant, Magar, to create a mystical creature that will help prove his superiority to his nominal boss...

Written by Doug Moench, penciled by Herb Trimpe, and inked by Mike Esposito, this never-reprinted story from Marvel's Shogun Warriors #6 (1979) concluded the series' first story arc.
So we're taking a break (but only until the New Year) from the Shoguns!
But there's much more Mecha Madness on Mondays!
After a pair of American robot tales for the remainder of November, December will be entirely-dedicated to a groundbreaking Japanese mecha...though not a giant one!

Monday Madness / CoronaVirus Comics MORLOCK: 2001 "Morlock Must be Destroyed!" Conclusion

...as seen from the perspective of 1975, when the story was created, he had been given shelter by a scientist who was conducting similar research into humanoid plants like what Morlock's creator had been doing!
Written by Michael Fleischer, penciled by Al Milgrom, and inked by Jack Abel, this never-reprinted tale from Atlas/Seaboard's Morlock: 2001 #2 (1975) introduces a new vengeance-driven antagonist who could either have worked with the government to capture Morlock or against the government to destroy the plant-man!
Except...as with most of the company's titles, the third issue featured a total change of creative staff and direction...as you'll see next Monday!

One note: the "hobos" on pages 5 though 7 are based on Alex, the protaganist in the Stanley Kubrick film A Clockwork Orange and his gang.
(In fact, the hobos' leader is also named "Alex"!)

Monday Madness / CoronaVirus Comics MORLOCK: 2001 "Coming of Morlock!" Conclusion

...actually, we haven't seen this, because the cover (which features Morlock's human and monster forms together) is symbolic!
In the Fahrenheit 451/1984-style world of 2001 (as seen from 1975), the government controls everything!
When the lab of a rebel scientist is discovered and destroyed, the only things salvaged are a couple of plant-like pods plus notes and chemicals related to them.
One of them contains a sentient humanoid who can turn humans to shrubbery-like vegetables simply by touching them!
Seeing the potential for a lethal and untraceable weapon to keep the populace in line through terror, the government officials brainwash the humanoid, now code-named "Morlock" after the creatures in HG Wells' novel The Time Machine to serve them as a killer...
Written by Micahel Fleischer, penciled by Al Milgrom and inked by Jack Abel, this premiere issue of Atlas/Seaboard's Morlock: 2001 (1975), presented some interesting concepts, but, since the company folded after only three issues were published, never really-developed the concepts...
