Reading Room TWILIGHT ZONE "Calling..." & "Journeys into..."

Though the original Twilight Zone comic never adapted any of the TV episodes...
...it did use a stellar lineup of talent to craft some really good new stories as well as science featurettes like this George Evans-illustrated one from Dell's Four Color #1288 (1962)...
...and this Evans-penciled/Reed Crandall-inked piece from Dell's Four Color #1173 (1961).
Besides these talented guys, other artists on the early issues included Frank Frazetta, Mike Sekowsky, Frank Giacoia, Alex Toth, Frank Thorne, Don Heck, and Angelo Torres!
Though neither Dell nor Gold Key followed the Comics Code, they didn't allow the creatives to go back to the relatively-unrestrained horror material most of the artists (especially the EC alumni) had done previously!
Sadly, trademark and licensing constraints have prevented these stories from being reprinted, but you'll be seeing them re-pesented here and at our fellow RetroBlogs!

Space Hero Saturdays CAPTAIN VIDEO "Dark Side of the Moon" Conclusion

Aliens operating on the Dark Side of the Moon plan to attack Earth, and only Captain Video (with the Video Ranger) can stop them...

You may ask, "What's so special about this? It's typical sci-fi."
And you'd be right.
Except, due to their extremely low-budget nature, the Captain Video TV show and movie serial showed aliens who looked like this...

The "alien invasion force" from Captain Video; the Serial.
Note Captain Video (Judd Holdren) and the Ranger on the left in "clever" disguises.

Only in the comic, unencumbered by financial or special effect restrictions, was the full, unfettered potential of the concept realized.

Wednesday Worlds of Wonder LOST WORLD "Monsters from the Blue"

With the school to train resistance fighters now secure...
...Hunt Bowman and Lyssa press on with their mission to retake Earth from the Volta invaders!
Will Bowman and his cadets utilize this flying sub (and other similar craft) against the VoltaMen?
Will Earth be freed?
I'm afraid we'll never know!
Sadly, this story from Fiction House's Planet Comics #64 (1950) was the final Golden Age tale of The Lost World.
Though Planet Comics continued for another year, it went all-reprint!
But this is not the end of Hunt Bowman and Lyssa's adventures in Lost World at Wednesday Worlds of Wonder!
Nest week you'll see the only Lost World text feature ever published!
And after that, the Bronze Age reboot of the strip from Blackthorne's all-new Planet Comics!
Don't remember it?

Wednesday Worlds of Wonder LOST WORLD "To Save You, Why Must I Kill You?"

Considering this never-reprinted tale was published over in 1949...

...it's almost frightening to see how applicable the story's moral is to the problems of today's America!
Heroic Hunt Bowman and the duly-elected Earth Council decide on a course of action...gathering the surviving children of North America in a well-prepared location to teach them what they'll need to survive and fight back against the invading VoltaMen.
Rabble-rousers claim Bowman's actions are violating their personal freedom and endangering their children!
(Apparently Republicans survived the invasion from Volta!)
Happily, by the end of the tale, the Repugs...I mean idiots...have learned the error of their ways and the School for Survival is now in session!
Sadly, in the real world, the fools who claim their personal freedom take priority over their survival haven't learned...and may not live long enough to do so!
