Reading Room: SPACE ACTION "Weird Threat of the Space Giants"

There's nothing better than some good 'ol cheesy sci-fi schlock...
...just think of it as a SyFy network Saturday night movie, but on paper rather than your TV screen!
This never-reprinted tale from Ace's Space Action #2 (1952) was illustrated by workhorse Bill Molno, but the writer's name has eluded our keen senses.
Lucky guy!

Reading Room: SPACE ACTION "Beware the Human Meteorites"

C'mon, a title like that is a real attention-grabber...
...and the story is equally-funky, once you get past the whole "medieval garb" thing that invariably crops up in comic sci-fi of the era.

So the "human meteorites" are, in essence, flaming space zombies?
Dumb, but cool!
Here's a trivial (but pertinent) question: Why don't other Jovians have pointed ears, like Deuel?
Aren't they the same species?
Art for this never-reprinted story from Ace's Space Action #3 (1953) is by Bill Molno, the writer is unknown.

Reading Room SPACE ACTION "Dangerous Migration of the Baalites"

Where did they come up with some of these weird titles?
Perhaps this never-reprinted tale from Ace's Space Action #2 (1952) will clear up some of the mystery...

The "migration" is a minor plot point.
Personally, I would've gone with something like "The Outlaw Who Saved the Earth" or "Seek Treasure, Find Death!"
But that's just me.

Reading Room UNUSUAL TALES "Where Does It Go?"

Have you ever seen a bus pass by that you're unfamilar with, and wonder...
..."Where Does It Go?"
This never-reprinted tale behind this never-reprinted Rocke Mastroserio cover offers one possibility!
While the concept is rather kool, I have to ask, why is the robot such an insulting s.o.b.?
Writer Joe Gill, penciler Bill Moino, and inker Vince Alascia probably could have provided the answer when they created this story for Charlton's Unusual Tales #29 (1961), none of them are around now to answer the question...

Reading Room: BRANT CRAIG "Legion of the Dead"

"In space, no one can hear you scream..."
...with a story of interplanetary terror that would frighten even the toughest hard-boiled dick in the galaxy.
This never-reprinted story from Youthful's Captain Science #4 (1951) was the only one with an overt "horror" theme added into the already-cross genre series, and was probably illustrated by Bill Molno.
The writer is unknown.
This completes our run of the never-reprinted adventures of space sleuth Brant Craig.

Reading Room: BRANT CRAIG "Case of the Racing Grellama"

Some things never change...
...including cliched mysteries featuring private eyes, whether set in the 1930s/40s or the far future...
This never-reprinted "hard-boiled dick in space" story from Youthful's Fantastic #8 (1951) was probably illustrated by Bill Molno.
The writer is unknown.
BTW, Fantastic's first issue was #8.
The book is actually Captain Science retitled!
This is the final published tale of Brant Craig, but it's not the last one you'll see here!
There's one more, horror-themed, story we're saving for Halloween week.
Don't miss it!

Reading Room: BRANT CRAIG "Hot Money Space Mob"

Counterfeiting will always be a problem, even in the 30th Century...
...as we see in this never-reprinted tale from the final issue of Youthful's Captain Science!
This "hard-boiled private-eye in space" story from Youthful's Captain Science #7 (1951) was probably illustrated by Bill Molno and Rocco Mastroserio.
The writer is unknown.
