75th Anniversary of the Disappearance of Amelia Earhart

Let's look at how the amazing aviatrix was portrayed in comics...

Though cover-dated August, 1937, the issue this one-pager by Stookie Allen appeared in (Dell Comics' The Funnies #11) was probably produced in March (when Amelia made her first attempt at an around-the-world flight), and on-sale in May or June, shortly before her ill-fated second attempt.

So the reference about the writer/artist "pulling for her" was probably in reference to her first attempt.

The other comic stories we're presenting were done after she disappeared on July, 2, 1937...

This story from True Comics #52 (1946) has one interesting mis-statement.
See if you can find it...

The next-to-last panel should read "Two hours later...", not "Two days later"

Our final tale is from an installment of the ongoing non-fiction feature Wonder Women of History that appeared in Wonder Woman #23 (1947), illustrated by Robert Sale...

The FINAL Wonder Woman Costume from the TV Pilot!

The costume Adrianne Palicki wore at the end of the rejected Wonder Woman tv pilot written and produced by David E. Kelley...

...and the costume as originally-shown in promo photos.

When they actually filmed the pilot, the blue boots shown above were red, like the bustier.

TV's New Wonder Woman in Costume!

We covered the controversy regarding the new Wonder Woman costume introduced in #600 of her comic book series HERE.
At that point, the consensus was that the new outfit was meant to be more "user friendly" for a live-action Wonder Woman, either in film or tv.

Well, here's Adrianne Palicki in costume, as Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman, as she'll appear in the pilot for a new David E Kelly-produced series.
BTW, Lynda Carter has gone on record as saying she likes it!

If they had done a Wonder Woman movie in the 1940s...

...Jane Russell (1921-2011) would've been the perfect Diana Prince/Wonder Woman!
Could be both kick-ass (The Outlaw) and demure, and would've fit into the costume perfectly!
And she had great comic timing (Paleface / Son of Paleface)!

Ironically, I had just watched Forbidden Planet on TCM last night (for the umpteeth time), and was discussing who, of the main cast, was still alive! (Leslie Nielsen [Commander J.J. Adams] had passed away in November.)
Plus, one of my projects for this year was expanding the Fantastic Femmes entries to include more past performers including Anne, Raquel Welch, Diana Rigg, etc.
Then this morning, I read about Anne's passing due to complications from cancer...

Her roles as Altaira "Alta" Morbius and Honey West alone would assure her a place as a Fantastic Femme.

She was also one of the few non-regulars to play the same character in several episodes of Man from U.N.C.L.E.!

Plus, she guest-starred on numerous genre shows from Burke's Law (where Honey West debuted) to Wonder Woman!

Besides being ravishingly-beautiful she had a great acting range, doing everything from comedies to westerns to film noir! We've included several of the harder-to-find ones below...

Her favorite performance was in the psychological thriller Girl of the Night, one of the few films she got top billing. (It's unavailable on Amazon, but you can get it directly from Warner Archives!)
