Trump Reading Room / CoronaVirus Comics CHAMBER OF DARKNESS "Day of the Red Death!"

...reminded me of an updated version of Edgar Allan Poe's classic tale of disease, "Masque of the Red Death"! Here's that updated  "adaptation", set present-day, which freely admits the source material!
In fact, out of the mouth of the legendary Stan (the Man) Lee himself...
A rich, uncaring guy who has the power to destroy the entire world and wouldn't hesitate to allow a plague to do so...as long as he was safe!
Now who does that remind us of?
Writer Roy Thomas had been a teacher before turning to writing/editing comics, and he loved utilizing classic literature in his work!
Don Heck, whose Marvel work was usually inked by others, apparently relished the opportunity to do both penciling and inking, as he had done in his 1950s horror and war comics work!
In addition, John Romita Sr turned in a wonderfully-rendered cover which was somewhat obscured by the black tints used to create "mood".
Look at the original art to see the detail you might've missed on the printed version...
Kool, eh?

Friday Fun SNAFU "Emilie Toast's Etiquette Page

For those who claim we've become a rude, crude society...
.......... a never-reprinted spoof of classic etiquette expert Emily Post's ever-eloquent diatribes about politeness from Atlas' SNAFU b/w mag, courtesy of an unknown writer (possibly editor Stan Lee) and artist John Severin, who could draw literally anything in any genre!
Note: though the issue is V2N1 (1956) it's actually only #2 because Volume 1 had only one issue!
In the old days, "Volumes" were date-related, so if you began publication at the end of the year, as this did, the next issue, which would be published in the following year, was a new Volume!
(Hey, don't blame me, colectors! I didn't make the rules!)

Reading Room ALIEN WORLDS "Collector's Item"

With eBayAmazon, and other sites on the 'Net, it's hard for fans today to perceive when it was a real achievement to track down a...
...like the final card in a set it took months to complete!
Written by Bruce Jones and illustrated with some kool pseudo-Mars Attacks! card graphics by Ken Steacy, this tale of trading cards and terror from Eclipse's anthology Alien Worlds #8 (1984) perfectly captures the obsessive-collector mindset all of us suffer from at one point or another during our FIAWOL (Fandom is a Way of Life) period.

Wednesday Worlds of Wonder LOST WORLD "United We Stand"

...now that was a serious synopsis for this tale from Fiction House's Planet Comics #22 (1943)!
Though the writer is still unknown, the strip has a new look thanks to artist Nick Cardy (using his full name "Viscardy").
But it'll change when yet another artist does the next chapter!
BTW, I have no idea why page 38 has a 1/3 page ad on the left!
Next Week, the return of 1990s cyber-weirdness with Harsh Realm!

I'm a fan of literally everything relating to Flash Gordon...
...and this never-reprinted short from the HTF fanzine Heritage (1971) is one of the best Flash stories ever!
You can tell writer/artist Estaban Maroto is a serious Alex Raymond fan, right?

Monday Madness / CoronaVirus Comics MORLOCK: 2001 "Coming of Morlock!" Conclusion

...actually, we haven't seen this, because the cover (which features Morlock's human and monster forms together) is symbolic!
In the Fahrenheit 451/1984-style world of 2001 (as seen from 1975), the government controls everything!
When the lab of a rebel scientist is discovered and destroyed, the only things salvaged are a couple of plant-like pods plus notes and chemicals related to them.
One of them contains a sentient humanoid who can turn humans to shrubbery-like vegetables simply by touching them!
Seeing the potential for a lethal and untraceable weapon to keep the populace in line through terror, the government officials brainwash the humanoid, now code-named "Morlock" after the creatures in HG Wells' novel The Time Machine to serve them as a killer...
Written by Micahel Fleischer, penciled by Al Milgrom and inked by Jack Abel, this premiere issue of Atlas/Seaboard's Morlock: 2001 (1975), presented some interesting concepts, but, since the company folded after only three issues were published, never really-developed the concepts...
Will Morlock Return?
It's Up to YOU!
Let us Know!
Bonus Material
The original, unused cover, inked by Jack Abel instead of the Dick Giordano-inked final cover above!
The cover of the Australian reprint
(Note it's rated "adult readers only", despite passing the rather strict Comics Code Authority in America!)
