Space Heroine Saturdays TARA "Fabulous Jewel of Morn"

She's back...the female space pirate who proves...
...in the eternal void, gender is irrelevant when strategy and weaponry can triumph over brute strength!

Though this tale is in Nedor's Wonder Comics #16, the cover by Alex Schomberg during his "Xela" airbrush art period, is from the next issue...Wonder Comics #17!

The cover features both the villain and jewel from the story in #16, so we're using it here.
In fact, none of the covers featuring Tara go with the stories in their respective issues!
Weird!
Penciled and inked by Gene Fawcette.

Space Heroine Saturdays TARA "Outlaw of the Universe!"

An origin story, or as we say in comics "Who She Is and How She Came to Be"!

And it hasn't been reprinted since initial publication in Nedor's Wonder Comics #15 (1947)
Yes, I said #15, even though the cover by Alex Schomberg (aka "Xela") is from #16!
I'll explain later...
Tara continued in Wonder Comics until the book was cancelled, then popped over to fellow Nedor title Thrilling Comics for her final appearance!
You'll be seeing another chapter of her saga once a month as part of Space Heroine Saturdays!
As to why the cover for the next issue is used here:
1) the cover for #15 featured a different character.
2) The cover used on #16 actually shows a situation from this issue (#15)!

Reading Room AMAZING ADVENTURES "Exhibit One!"

One of the classic cliches of sci-fi is "aliens treating humans beings like zoo animals".
While this Allen Anderson cover indicates the story starts out that way...it ends...well, wait and see...
This never-reprinted tale from Ziff-Davis Amazing Adventures #2 (1951), takes the cliche and adds a new twist.
While we don't know who the writer is, we do know the artist is Alex Schomburg, who had a long career as a pulp and comic book artist, not only penciling and inking, but painting covers as well!
BTW, the writer, more than likely, is the book's editor...Jerry (Superman) Siegel.

Design of the Week--Judy of the Jungle

Each week, we post a limited-edition design, to be sold for exactly 7 days, then replaced with another!
This week...
Since our new Jungle Girls calendar has received such an amazing response, we decided to move up our plans to roll out some of the new images from it on kollectibles including messenger bags, t-shirts, et all with the one that has the most crossover appeal for both males and females.
Presenting...Judy of the Jungle!
One of a plethora of animal skin-clad heroines who popped up after World War II, Judy had several things going for her...
1) A name you could actually pronounce! Most jungle-based heroines had names like Rulah, Vooda, even Zoot!
2) She was a redhead, making her visually-distinctive from the mostly-blonde crowd!
3) Her covers, illustrated by noted Golden Age artist Alex Schomburg using the alias "Xela", were paintings, rather than pen-and-ink art, giving them a unique "look"!
So, if you're looking for a strong role model for a young lady, or you just want to look at a powerful, scantly-clad woman in action, the Atomic Kommie Comics™ crew sez you can't go wrong with...Judy of the Jungle!
