Space Hero Saturdays SPACE ACTION "Invaders From a Lost Galaxy"

A "Lost Galaxy"?
Not The "Lost Galaxy"?
How many "Lost Galaxies" are out there?
And, is this one really lost, or just misplaced? ;-)

While the writer is unknown, the art for this Flash Gordon-inspired tale from Ace's Space Action #1 (1952) breaks down as pencils by Lou Cameron, inks by Rocco Mastroserio!

Friday Fun ARCHIE'S MAD HOUSE "Why Is It?"

Archie Comics tried twice to do a kinder, gentler (Comics Code-approved) MAD-style comic!
This series, Archie's Mad House, using the Archie cast as "hosts" to introduce the features, was the first attempt!
Joe Edwards, the writer/artist behind this never-reprinted story from Archie's Mad House #16 (1962) was one of the most prolific creators of the Archie Comics creative crew, producing several thousand (yes, you read that correctly) stories including standalones like this one, one and two-page shorts, tales of the Archie gang, and an ongoing strip featuring his own creation, L'il Jinx!
The book went through numerous reboots/reincarnations as Archie's MadHouse / Archie's Mad House / Mad House / Mad House Ma-ad Jokes / Ma-ad House Freak-Out / Mad House Glads / Mad House an anthology horror comic for three issues...then reverted to humor as Mad House Comics for a total run of 130 issues between 1961 and 1982, a pretty good run by any standard!
The book was revived as a Halloween reprint annual from 2017 to 2019, and will doubtless rise again at some point!

Reading Room SPACE ACTION "Dictator of Japetus"

It appears that, even in the future, Mankind will still have dictators!
Personally, I've never seen the appeal of someone, who wasn't elected by the majority of the populace, arbitrarily-deciding matters for us!
Penciled by then-up-and-comer Mike Sekowsky, this tale from Ace's Space Action #3 (1952) is typical space opera of the period with a little political intrigue thrown in, and reads better than most of the stories that ran in Space Action.

Wednesday Worlds of Wonder O.C.T. OCCULT CRIMES TASKFORCE Chapter 1 Part 1

Sophia Ortiz is a dedicated NYPD officer, taking "to protect and serve" seriously...
...and its' that dedication to duty that's gonna lead her into a World of Wonder she never dreamed of!
To Be Continued...
Next Wednesday!
Created and co-written by actress Rosario (Ahsoka) Dawson (who posed for photo reference for Sophia Ortiz), co-written by David Atchison, and illustrated by Tony (Star Trek) Shasteen, 12-Gauge/Image Comics' 2007 4-issue mini-series Occult Crimes TaskForce was a mystical (rather than scientific), gritty/urban take on the Men in Black concept.
Trivia note: NYPD (even rookies) don't wear khaki uniforms!
(My brother was a NYPD cop for 20 years from the 1980s to the early 2000s...never wore khaki.)
I'm surprised Dawson, who was born and lived in NYC until her late teens, didn't point this out to the other creatives!
I suppose it could be attributed to this being a fictionalized version of NYC...

Reading Room WEIRD TALES OF THE FUTURE "The Time Has Come"

Here's a sci-fi comic story starring a guy named Alan Moore...
...and he's not that Alan Moore, since this story from Key's Weird Tales of the Future #1 (1952) predates the award-winning writer's birth by a year!

On a similar (if somewhat silly) note, you can see TV's Green Hornet battle Frank Miller (not the writer/artist) HERE!
Ironically, the writer of this story is unknown, but the artist is John Bulthuis, whose credited work appeared in MLJ/Archie and Key Comics titles, but his style looks similar to quite a number of unidentified stories I've seen.

Monday Magik Madness OCCULT CRIMES TASKFORCE "Officer Training Manual" Introduction

Study this document carefully.
It may save your life!

Think we're kidding?
This introduction to a secret manual for a covert NYC police division is from a 2007 12-Gauge/Image Comics mini-series.
You'll be seeing other sections of the manual in the near-future.
When N.Y.P.D detective Sophia Ortiz stumbles upon a bizarre murder scene, she is initially brushed aside, then recruited by a covert police unit ― the Occult Crimes Taskforce.
Versed in the black arts and equipped with mystical weaponry, the O.C.T. keeps the streets of Manhattan safe from unholy creatures of the night.
Can Sophia help stop this supernatural killer?
And why does she look just like Rosario (Ahsoka) Dawson?
Find out right here on Wednesday. as we present Part One in
Wednesday Worlds of Wonder
