Space Force Saturdays SPACE SQUADRON "Target Moon"

Once more, we join the all-American heroes (and alien allies) of...

...showing life in the early 21st Century as seen from the mid-20th Century!
1) Why wasn't the creature vaporized?
2) If it isn't dead after a direct hit by an atomic bomb, how do we know it won't reproduce before it dies?
3) What about radiation?
At the very least, the Space Squadron should all be sterile, if not dying of radiation poisoning!
Hope Blast isn't counting on grandchildren in his future!
4) Considering, in this future, we've populated the Solar System (as well as other systems), I can't believe we don't have one (or more) moonbases already in operation!
Are they in danger from radiation?

The author of this amazingly scientifically-illiterate tale from Atlas' Space Squadron #4 (1951) is unknown, but we do know the penciler is Werner Roth!

Friday Fun / Easter Reading Room EASTER WITH MOTHER GOOSE "Buddy Bunny's Problem"

Here's a kool short story by Walt (Pogo) Kelly...
...about the Easter Bunny bringing his son into the family business!
This story from Dell's Four Color Comics #103: Easter with Mother Goose (1946) was written and illustrated by Walt Kelly, whose signature series Pogo wouldn't debut for another three years.
Trivia:
While Pogo as a stand-alone series began in 1949, various characters including Pogo himself and Albert the Alligator had appeared as supporting characters in other Walt Kelly-written and drawn strips since 1941.

Reading Room WEIRD ADVENTURES "Amazing Prophecies"

Can you guess how many of these predictions from 1951 have come true?
Answer:
NONE!
The unknown writer and artist of this never-reprinted one-pager from Ziff-Davis' Weird Adventures #10 (1951) were hoping for a Jetson-esque future that still hasn't occurred 70 years later!
BTW, despite the numbering, this was the one-and-only issue of the title!

Wednesday Worlds of Wonder LOST WORLD "For Sale...One Planet, Used!"

The Lost World Holds Many Mysteries...
...such as why the Venusians in this story are nothing like the ones seen several months ago...as shown HERE!
Minor note: the Asteroid Belt is between Mars and Jupiter, so how could the Venusians claim it belongs to them?
I'm beginning to wonder if "Thorncliffe Herrick" passed high school science!
As mentioned earlier, the Venusians' previous visit to Earth showed them to be vastly-different in appearance as well as enemies of the VoltaMen!

Reading Room FUTURE WORLD COMICS "What in the Future World"

It's always fun to see what people of the past (1946) predicted for the future (our present)...
...what they got right, what they got wrong, and what they sorta got right!
Both the unknown writer and artist of this never-reprinted feature from the short-lived George W. Dougherty Publishing's Future World Comics #2 (1946) got about half the predictions right...like printed circuits and carbon monoxide detectors!
But they also came up with weirdies like plastic clotheslines and a fountain pen with ink pellets you just add water to for instant ink!
Ah, well...

Monday Mars Madness RACE FOR THE MOON "Face on Mars"

Perhaps the most famous story from Harvey's Race for the Moon...

...is this tale from #2 by writer/peniler Jack Kirby and inker Al Williamson which doesn't take place on the Moon...but on Mars!

Why is it so famous?

Keep in mind that this was the era of the Chariots of the Gods? fad, and to many, this pic was confirmation that aliens had either come thru the Solar System and stopped off not only on Earth, but Mars as well, or were from Mars initially!
And, there were those who remembered this little comic tale from their childhood.
The truth was a bit more mundane. Click HERE for NASA's explanation.
To this day, there are still those who say it's a cover-up, that there is life on Mars, and that "the face" is a relic of their existence.
Judge for yourself.
