The Woman Who (Believe It or Not) LOVED Scrooge!

When you think of Ebenezer Scrooge, "lovable" is probably the last word you'd associate with him.
Yet, one woman gave her heart to him...was engaged to him...and had her heart broken by him!
Her name was Belle!
She appears twice in A Christmas Carol, during Scrooge's journey with the Ghost of Christmas Past.

First, we see how the young Scrooge choose between his love of money and love of her.
Second, we see how, after their breakup, she married a good man and together they raised a loving family, giving Scrooge a look at what "might have been" had he chosen to remain with her!

Almost every dramatic adaptation (radio/tv/movie) shows the first incident, but omits the second scene (usually due to time constraints), thus many people have never known how Belle's life turned out after Scrooge left her!
(You'd be surprised how many people never actually read the story, only seen or heard the tv, film and audio versions!)

Most of the illustrators of the many editions that have been printed over the decades have also bypassed the conclusion of Belle's plotline.
But not legendary illustrator Arthur Rackham!
He did not one, but two color illustrations in the 1915 edition just for the short conclusion to Belle's story in Stave Two!
And we at Atomic Kommie Comics™ just had to include both of them in our A Christmas Carol collection!
One, Belle & Children shows Scrooge's once-love playing with her kids.
The other, Belle's Family portrays the children crowding around their father (whom Scrooge could have been, had he chosen differently) as he comes home, laden with presents!

They're absolutely beautiful pieces, some of the best work Rackham ever produced!
Enjoy!

You'll Just Love...LOVE DIARIES and LOVE LETTERS for Valentine's Day!

Until the intro of messaging apps, blogs, and podcasts, the main way people kept track of their love lives was thru Love Letters and Love Diaries!
In fact, they made up one of the most popular sub-categories of romance comics, with literally dozens of titillating titles!

Let our selection of the best of these these kitchy, campy (and very kool) classic comics covers help you express your true feelings on the Most Important of Days--Valentines Day on greeting cards, teddy bears, mugs, and even "naughty" undies!

And, if they can't assist your love-life, perhaps something from one of our other sections at True Love Comics Tales™ including...
(or is that Love in School?)
...will help get your point across on the Most Important of Days!

You think the economic situation is bad now?Go back 84 years ago, to November 1938 and see...elves were picketing Santa's WorkShop for better pay!
(You'll note that the cover is dated January, 1939. But it was actually on sale in November, 1938! Publishers used to cover-date comics and pulps two to three months ahead of the actual on-sale date to keep the books on the stands for as long as possible!)
Thus do we at Atomic Kommie Comics™ offer another retro-styled collectible for your Christmas gift-giving consideration, and offer you a bit of media history at the same time!
In this case, we proudly present one of our Christmas in the Comics line from our Cool Christmas collection: numerous digitally-remastered comic covers featuring classic characters celebrating Christmas, including The Green LamaFast Willie Jackson, SuperSnipe, and Edison Bell: Boy Inventor, as well as two long-out-of-print versions of The Big Man, Santa, himself!

The Hardly-Abominable SnowMan!

Along with Santa Claus and Scrooge, our frosty friend is one of the most recognizable symbols of Winter and the joyous Christmas Season!
The songwriting team of Jack Rollins and Steve Nelson took the folk-tale of a snowman coming to life and playing with children, only to melt at the end of winter, and adapted it into a song they sold to Gene Autry. who was looking for a follow-up to his previous hit; Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
Like RudolphFrosty the Snow Man turned out to be a major hit single and was adapted to other media, including several cartoon versions, the first of which was a short "music video" version of the song itself...
that version, and the subsequent books and comic books of the 1950s that we draw our kool retro-style imagery for our line of holiday goodies including greeting cardscollectiblesinfant/toddler/kidswear and adult clothing (sweatshirts and hoodies)!
So come play with the SnowMan!
We promise he won't melt!

I Love Zombies! You Love Zombies! We ALL Love Zombies!

ZOMBIES!
Call them the undead, the unliving, reanimated corpses, or even the ultimate carnivores, zombies are HOT, HOT, HOT!
With The Walking Dead back on tv screens for its' final season, zombies have never been more popular!
But it, as well as all the other films and tv series currently featuring zombies owe a debt to the visual depictions of the shambling undead from the horror pulps and comics of the Golden Age (1930s-1950s)!
Like video games today, those periodicals were deemed so harmful to the psyches of impressionable youths that the government held hearings about possibly banning them altogether!
The comics industry barely survived, but ended up toning down horror comics to a mere shadow of their blood-dripping selves, only recently, in the 1990s, returning in all their gruesome glory!
Even with modern technology, today's zombie flix are hard pressed to match these classic comics for visceral visual thrills.
So, it's with pardonable pride that Atomic Kommie Comics™ re-presents some of the creepiest and koolest covers from those bygone days, digitally-restored and remastered, on a line of collectibles including mugs, hoodies, and book/messenger bags!
If you're looking for a birthday or holiday present for a fan of the "life-impaired" (or a Halloween treat for yourself), why not combine one of our kool kollectibles with one of the books or DVDs available on-line or at brick-and-mortar stores?

Design of the Week Redux SPACE ACE!

Each week, we post a limited-edition design, to be sold for exactly 7 days...

...unless it sells really well, then we continue it for a second week!
This Week...
Before Don Bluth appropriated the name for his video game, there were a couple of totally different Space Aces in the Golden Age of Comics!
This particular one was a Flash Gordon-type set in the then-distant future year of 2000, complete with one-man spacecraft, moving sidewalks, flying cars, mile-high skyscrapers, human colonies on other worlds, etc.! (You remember all that stuff, don't you?)
And, of course, aliens!
LOTS of aliens!

One of the interesting things about this image is that it doesn't feature a scantily-clad woman being held captive by the tentacled alien, making it particularly age-appropriate (but still retro-kool) for under-10 year-old kids' (pre-K / 4th Grade) back-to-school stuff!
Enjoy!

Haunted Halloween Goodies (G and PG-13)!

October is here, the leaves are turning orange and brown, and already our somewhat- warped thoughts naturally turn to...HALLOWEEN, the koolest holiday of all!
We at Atomic Kommie Comics™ have told you about our Horror Comics of the 1950s™ and Seduction of the Innocent™ sections, PLUS the Martians, Martians, Martians™ category of The Future WAS Fantastic™, all of which have kool retro horror-oriented goodies year-round for the older kids-at-heart.
But what about something for the younger crowd, the tweens and pre-teens, the toddlers and babies?
Well, never let it be said we ignored a target demographic!
We have a Haunted Halloween section specifically-for those little ones who want a slightly-scary take on the spectral and spooky, as well as for the 7-13 category who want a bit more meat on the bone (as it were).
We're also offering Yard Signs & Banners, plus; invitation and greeting cards, ghostly garb, and ghoulish goodies like monstrous mini-buttons (great as treats instead of tooth-rotting candy), reusable trick or treat bags, and other creepy collectibles.
Note to the older crowd, sorry, but the shirts 'n stuff are kid-sized only.
Have a look and order now, if you want your treats!
Wait too long and you'll be tricked!

Design of the Week LITTLE WOMEN

Each week, we post a limited-edition design, to be sold for exactly 7 days, then replaced with another!
Yeah, it's not the usual comic art we run on kool kollectibles, but Louisa May Alcott's classic Little Women is a pop-culture phenomenon, still going strong 150 years later!
The trials and tribulations of Meg, Beth, Jo, and Amy March are still as relevant today as they were then, as the new, updated, movie version opening this week demonstrates!
So, if you're looking for a kool Little Women kollectible for yourself or a significant other, check it out HERE!

It's Summertime! Drink KOOBA KOLA!

Wait a second...You CAN'T!
It doesn't exist!
(You can read the sordid tale of the soda that almost took the world by storm here!)
You can't DRINK it, but you can WEAR it!
It's the height of summer, and we at Atomic Kommie Comics™ decided to re-present the Soda That Would Not Die on collectibles ranging from BeachWear / NightShirts to mugs, iPad / netbook / messenger bags (and the irony of doing bags with "Kooba" on them hasn't escaped us!), and hoodies at KoobaCola 1 and KoobaCola 2!
So celebrate what could have been one of the bubbliest success stories of soft drink entepreneurship, but instead just fizzled out and fell flat!
(You just knew we were gonna do a pun like that, didn't you?)  ;-)

The clock striking "12" signals the appearance of Santa and...

We at Atomic Kommie Comics™ are big fans of retro pop culture.
And in the 1940s-1950s one of the biggest pop cult phenomenons was Captain Midnight!
Books, Comics, Movies, Radio, TV...He was EVERYWHERE!

Created for radio in 1938, the patriotic aviator ran the Secret Squadron, what we today would call a "black ops" team, supported by the government but functioning outside of legal rules in dealing with spies, saboteurs, and (after the war) criminals!
Trivia note: the Secret Squadron originally used the code "SS" on their messages, decoders, and uniform patches, but changed it to "SQ" after World War II began to avoid reference to the notorious Nazi SS stormtroopers!
Cap replaced Little Orphan Annie as the flagship show for Ovaltine, carrying on the tradition of issuing mail-in collectible premiums in return for Ovaltine labels and jar seals, taking it to far greater levels than any other radio series in history! (The phrase "Captain Midnight Decoder" became synonymous with mail-in premiums.)
The show ran Monday thru Friday in 15-minute segments, with storylines running for several months at a time, ending each episode with a coded message which required a Captain Midnight Decoder to translate.
A series of Big Little Books, a newspaper comic strip, and two different comic book series quickly followed, as well as a 15-chapter movie serial.
You can read a couple of stories from the 1940s comic book HERE.
The radio show ended with a bang in 1949, as Cap's archenemy Ivan Shark (an evil aviator) was killed in the final episode! Talk about "closure"!

Ovaltine revived Cap (but not Ivan Shark) in 1954 as a weekly tv series with a heavier science fiction emphasis.
Midnight was now a civilian adventurer operating out of a mountaintop base in the SouthWest US, battling criminals and the occasional Communist spy.
Though it only ran for 39 episodes, the show reran continuously until the mid 1960s.
Trivia note: the syndicated version was retitled Jet Jackson: Flying Commando because Ovaltine owned the "Captain Midnight" trademark and didn't sponsor the reruns!
One actor redubbed "Jet Jackson" over everybody (men, women, children) when they said "Captain Midnight", producing some rather surreal moments in the syndicated reruns!

Ovaltine continued to use "Captain Midnight" on advertising and occasional tie-in premiums until the late 1990s, when they finally abandoned the trademark.
He's now part of our Lost Heroes of the Golden Age of Comics group with six different vintage designs including five classic covers and his stylish logo!
As a unique Xmas gift for collectors of pop culture kitch, you can't go wrong with one of our klassy and kool kollectibles as a stocking stuffer!

Design of the EEK Redux! ZOMBIE!

Each week, we post a limited-edition design, to be sold for exactly 7 days, then replaced with another (unless it's selling really-well, like this one!)
Once more...It's an amazingly-detailed graphic of a half-eaten zombie, making the perfect Halloween gift for that loved (or loathed) one in your life!
Grab it now..before it grabs you!
