Reading Room 3-D COLOR CLASSICS: TIME MACHINE (Conclusion)

Victorian-era inventor John travels to the future and discovers that, after reaching a pinnacle of scientific development, mankind has deteriorated to two groups of primitives!
Above-ground dwellers are peaceful, but those who lurk below are savage!
The underground humans steal John's time-travel vehicle...and then, one of his new-found friends, a woman named Weena.
Seeking both, the chronic argonaut goes below the surface, where he discovers the hostile cave dwellers, known as "Morlocks", are hyper-sensitive to light.
Finding his machine and the woman, John heads for the surface with her, planning to return for his vehicle...
Note: John says to the Morlocks; "Perhaps one of my distant ancestors will meet you!"
If they're in the future, wouldn't it be one of his descendents?

Wednesday Worlds of Wonder 3-D COLOR CLASSICS: TIME MACHINE (Part 2)

...(note the reference to HG Wells' earlier time travel tale!)
Victorian inventor John travels to the future, where he discovers humans reached a remarkable level of scientific achievement, then apparently lost their knowledge over generations and became gentle primitives!
But not all of them!
When his time-travel vehicle is stolen and taken underground, John pursues the thieves, he discovers some humans had become savage primitives!
To Be Concluded...Tomorrow!
Adapted by Peter Stone, with layouts by Neal Adams and finishes by Adams, Rodolfo Damaggio, Andres Klasic, and John Nyberg, this adaptation takes considerable liberties with the original novel.
But, to be fair, almost every adaptation, no matter the media, has made changes, usually due to technical (sfx) or space limitations.

Reading Room 3-D COLOR CLASSICS: TIME MACHINE (Part 1)

Here's a never-reprinted graphic version of the HG Wells tale...
...from over 3 decades ago, illustrated by the late, great, Neal Adams and his Continuity Associates studio!
To Be Continued Tomorrow...in Wednesday Worlds of Wonder!
Adapted by scripter Peter Stone, with layouts by Neal Adams and finishes by Adams, Rodolfo Damaggio, Andres Klasic, and John Nyberg, this adaptation takes considerable liberties with the original novel.
But, to be fair, almost every adaptation, no matter the media, has made changes, usually due to technical (sfx) or space limitations.
The book was part of a series of comics given away as part of Wendy's Kid's Meals in 1995!
The books used a full color 3-D process called "ChromaDepth", that used the color spectrum to create a three-dimensional effect with the enclosed glasses, yet left a perfectly-readable (if oddly-colored) comic if the glasses were lost!

Reading Room CAPTAIN 3-D "Man From the World of 'D'" IN COLOR!

You won't need a pair of red/blue 3-D glasses to read this version of...
...as presented in the hardcover anthology Simon & Kirby SuperHeroes from Titan Books, restored from scans of both the original art and first-generation photostats used in the original book's production in 1953.
...and here's the original text intro to the character...
(For this you will need 3-D glasses.)
BTW, if you want to see the original 3-D version of this tale, click HERE!
Script by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, Art by Jack Kirby (pencils) and Joe Simon, Mort Meskin and Steve Ditko (inks).
Taking comic book line art and modifying it to produce a 3-D effect with red and blue colored art was technically simple, so almost every company attempted at least one 3-D book between 1952-55.
Most were 3-D versions of existing comics including SupermanBatmanTales from the Crypt, even Katy Keene.
However, Captain 3-D was the Simon & Kirby team's attempt to jump on the 3-D bandwagon with NEW material.
As you've just read, Captain 3-D had both a cool premise and nice set-up, playing up the use of glasses to both empower the hero and perceive villains. (The John Carpenter movie They Live! used a similar gimmick)
Unfortunately, a legal battle involving the 3-D process all but killed the financial viability of producing 3-D books, and, though material was already finished, there was never a second issue of Captain 3-D!

Holiday Reading Room FIRST CHRISTMAS IN NEW SUPER 3DIMENSION Conclusion

...he had just been born!
So get out those red-blue glasses and let's continue..

This never-reprinted 1953 comic from Fiction House was one of numerous Bible-themed titles put out by various comics publishers to try to counteract the growing tide of anti-comics sentiment created by Fredric (Seduction of the Innocent) Wertham and his ilk, showing comic books could also be wholesome entertainment.
You can see Atlas/Marvel's version of the Nativity HERE, and DC/EC's take on the story HERE.
The writer and artist are unknown, but it's a sure bet they were part of the Iger Studio which "packaged" (provided editorial and art) for Fiction House's comics division.
The cover is by legendary sci-fi pulp and book illustrator Kelly Freas!

Merry
Christmas!!!
