Wednesday Worlds of Wonder HP LOVECRAFT'S THE CALL OF CTHULHU "Call of Cthulhu" Part 2

We Have Already Seen...

Title Page from the first appearance of this tale, in Weird Tales V11N2 (1928)!
Inheriting the papers and personal effects of his late grand-uncle, linguistic professor George Gammell Angell, our narrator discovers a small bas-relief sculpture which yields "simultaneous pictures of an octopus, a dragon, and a human caricature", along with documents mentioning frequent references to Cthulhu and R'lyeh!
Tracing the documented incidents leads to a larger statue of indeterminate, but undeniable antiquity...perhaps predating known history...
To Be Concluded Next Wednesday!
Here's a couple of pages from this section of the original Spanish language publication, showing the unique color palette used for the story!
Pity these have never been reprinted in any of the several English-language editions!

Tales Twice-Told TERROR TALES "Horrors of the 13th Stroke"

There are a number of horror stories from the 1950s that couldn't be reprinted in the 1960s-early 70s...
...so they were redrawn (and often retitled)!

Pencilled and inked by Sheldon Moldoff, this never-reprinted story from Fawcett's Beware! Terror Tales #5 (1953) apparently was considered too scary for the Comics Code Authority to allow it to be reprinted in color comics!
But black-and-white magazines weren't subject to the CCA!
Guess what happened?
No need...
Just be here  Thursday for the deadly do-over!

Halloween Reading Room PHANTOM WITCH DOCTOR "Out of the Deep!"

 Avon's Phantom Witch Doctor (1952) was a unique one-shot...
...with a lead story featuring the title character and a trio of totally-unrelated tales (including this one) backing it up!

Whether the creature is a Lovecraftian-type Elder-God, a stranded alien, or just a sentient life-force is never really explained.
Another unsolved puzzle is who the writer and artist(s) for this short story were.
But what's life without a few mysteries, eh?

Spooky Space Hero Saturdays PLANET COMICS "Fero: Planet Detective"

This Halloween Season, We Give You the Truth about a Major Threat to Humanity!
We thought now is the right time to reveal the awesome secret about vampires and werewolves kept from humanity for centuries!
They're from Pluto!
Really!
While Fero did return in the next issue of Planet Comics, the "vampires and werewolves from Pluto" plotline didn't!
In fact, Fero was, without explanation, now an "interplanetary detective" in a future version of New York City, and stayed there for the remainder of his four-issue run.
This premiere appearance in Fiction House's Planet Comics #5 (1940) is credited to "Allison Brant", a pseudonym used by writer/artist Al Bryant who did almost 400 comics stories during his decade-long career.
