Monday Madness MAN FROM S.R.A.M. "vs the Devil-Man from S.U.N.E.V."

Last week we presented the Man from S.R.A.M. in his only published adventure!
...but there's one more tale to be told!
Written by Otto Binder (with re-write by Editor Joe Simon?) and illustrated by George Tuska, this story produced for Harvey's never-published Jigsaw #3 features a different Martian form for the protaganist, as well as a different vehicle from the previous chapter!
At the same time, Tuska also drew all three issues of Harvey's SpyMan, another cross-genre (super hero/spy/sci-fi) series just before moving on to a long run as Marvel's primary Silver Age Iron Man artist after Gene Colan!

Design of the Week: HALLOWEEN HOLE-IN-THE-HEAD!

Each week, we post a limited-edition design, to be sold for exactly 7 days, then replaced with another!
This week...
With Halloween coming, it seems only appropriate that we go with scary themes for the next few weeks.
Kicking off our compilation of creepy collectibles is this ghoulishly-graphic image from one of the types of comic books that gave Dr Fredric Wertham such fits in the 1950s!
(Wertham was the psychiatrist who claimed that horror comics caused juvenile delinquency, resulting in the demise of the genre and the near-death of the comic book industry. Despite his heroic efforts, juvenile delinquency continued to flourish!)
Yeah, it's gruesome, but in a campy, cartoonish fashion!
Isn't that exactly what you're looking for in Halloween-wear?

Friday Fun REX DEXTER OF MARS "Attack of the Ugly Queen"

Yes, it'a a very politically-incorrect title for this story...
...but it is what the antagonist of this tale calls herself, so...
Flash Gordon gets Ming the Merciless' beautiful daughter Princess Aura lusting after him!
Buck Rogers has the lovely Draconian Princess Ardala chasing him all over the galaxy!
Rex Dexter has...the Ugly Queen!
There ain't no justice, I tell ya!
And, worse, she's coming back...

Reading Room BRAIN FANTASY "Drooms Day"

Most current comics fans think of 1960s-70s underground comics as just pornography and weird humor...
...when, due to the Comics Code, they (and b/w newstand magazines) presented some rather daring and sophisticated sf/fantasy storytelling!
Despite the "to be continued..." caption at the end, there were, sadly, no further chapters to this never-reprinted story from Last Gasp's Brain Fantasy #1 (1972).
Editor/Writer/Artist Rick Shubb, despite being comic book-influenced, did very few comic stories.
He did do concert posters for various bands in the 1960s-70s as seen HERE, but has gained fame as the as the inventor of the Shubb Capo, a very popular guitar/banjo accessory.
Shubb also invented the lever-operated banjo fifth string capo, the compensated banjo bridge, and holds several other U.S. and international patents on musical instrument accessories and improvements.
He's also a noted and influential 5-string banjo player and teacher.
