Holiday Reading Room EVERY DAY'S A HOLLY DAY "Labor Day"

It's ironic anti-Union/pro-"Right to Work" Don the Con tweeted this...
...on a day meant to celebrate unions!
Why is this 1955 comic entitled "Every Day's a Holly Day" instead of "Every Day's a Holiday"?
Because it was given away to kids by grocers who sold Holly Sugar!
Illustrated by John Rosenberger, it's a unique pamphlet covering a number of American holidays, including both Lincoln and Washington's Birthdays (before they were combined into "Presidents' Day" in 1962), Mothers' Day (though not Fathers' Day), Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and a couple of holidays we've largely abandoned...Pan-American Day and American Indian Day!
We'll be presenting the other chapters on the dates they fall upon.
Watch for them!

Did You Miss the Fourth Week's Chapters of the Story DC Comics REFUSES to Publish...MONSTER SOCIETY OF EVIL?

Did you know we cracked the Captain Marvel Code which had been ending each chapter!
Remember how I told you the Captain Marvel Code-Finder was a mail-in premium that would enable you to understand the cryptic messages (like this one) in stories?
And that, without it, you'd be as helpless as an Axis spy to figure out what the message was!
And that I didn't have one of the HTF and expensive Code Finders?
Well, guess what?
We don't need it!
On the back of the Captain Marvel Club Membership Card (shown here) is that code!
Since we believe the story has historical significance, and the racism (which we abhor) is part of the tale, RetroBlogs dropped the plans we had for various summer mini-blogathons to re-present the entire, unexpurgated story scanned from the original issues of Fawcett's Captain Marvel Adventures at Hero Histories and Not Safe For Work Comics!
Enjoy, and keep up with the saga Monday through Friday!

Marie Severin (1929-2018)

We ran this never-reprinted 1970s tale only a year ago...
...but now it's in memory of the amazing lady who co-penciled (with Stu Schwartzburg) and inked it!
Written by Stu Schwartzberg, penciled by Stu and multi-talented, award-winning penciler/inker/colorist/designer Marie Severin and inked by Marie, this never-reprinted tale from Big Apple Comix #1 (1975) perfectly captures the "Noo Yawker" love-hate dichotomy!
Since one of Marie's many talents was caricature, she was also the only choice to handle movie/tv spoofs like this never-reprinted one from the appropriately-named Spoof #4 (1973)!
(BTW, the doctor on the Frank Giacoia-inked cover was Robert Young as tv sawbones Marcus Welby M.D., also the subject of a parody in this issue!)
Just a couple of samples from a talented and charming lady.
Note: the regular Friday Fun feature, Rex Dexter, will return next week.

Reading Room NIGHT OF MYSTERY "Giant from Earth!"

Though this never-reprinted tale appeared in a one-shot horror anthology comic...
...it's really a straight sci-fi tale with no horror elements!
I can't be certain, but it looks like the artists for this tale from Avon's Night of Mystery (1953) are Mike Sekowsky (pencils) and Frank Giacoia, Joe Giella, or Bernard Sachs (inks).
