When we moved last year, we were pleasantly-suprised at how little insect activity there was at the new pied-a-terre.
Got an unpleaseant surprise this morning, as we discovered an invasion of ants in the bathroom!
It's been contained and almost eliminated, but we're not going to do the usual post today.

Wednesday Worlds of Wonder CHRONICLES OF GENGHIS GRIMTOAD "Part 1"
The best way to learn about a totally-new universe is to dive right in...
...and learn as you go!
To Be Continued...
Next Wednesday!
Written by Alan Grant & John Wagner and illustrated by Ian Gibson, the series appeared in 2-page installments in all 20 issues of Marvel UK's bi-weekly Strip Magazine (their version of Marvel USA's Epic Magazine) and ended, incomplete, when the title was cancelled.
The strip was compiled along with the unpublished material to finish the story for a graphic novel version published in 1990.
Though intended for sale in both in the UK and USA, the trade paperback received limited distribution here and hasn't been reprinted since then,
Like most fictional worlds, this one's geography is different than ours, so you'll need a map to know where you are and where you're going...

Reading Room CONQUEROR COMICS "Conquerors"
Easily one of the weirdest strips ever...
...from the only issue of the only comic this publisher ever produced!
What did the creators of this series have in mind?
It
takes place on another world where long-dead people from Earth's past
are now apparently immortal and can manipulate time itself!
In
addition, it seems that every ethnic group has set itself up on their
own planet...which begs the question as to how they would get there,
since none of these groups had the technology for space travel!
Is it Heaven?
Unlikely, since Adolph Hitler is there!
Plus, the locals say the astronauts can't remove their helmets and breathe the air or they'll be unable to return to Earth!
Illustrated by Warren King, and scripted by an unknown writer, this lead story from the one and only issue of Conqueror Comics (1945) never had a sequel.
In fact, the publisher, Albrecht Publishing, never produced another comic!
In
most cases like this, unused material would be sold off to another
publisher who would use it as "filler", somewhere in their comics...but
not Albrecht!
So we'll never know what would've happened to Bill and John Cotter as they explored this weird part of space/time!

Monday Madness FANTASTIC COMICS "Space Smith and the Interplanetary Outlaws"
The past few weeks' Space Smith strips were based on gangster movie plots!
This week's space opera is based on cinematic horse operas (Westerns)!
Substitute "gold/silver mine map" for "hidden planet location map", six-shooters for ray guns, and wagon/stagecoach for spaceship, and the transposition in this never-reprinted tale from Fox's Fantastic Comics #19 (1941) is obvious!

Reading Room ATOM-AGE COMBAT "Hungry Moss"
Here's a story from the 1950s that might've inspired the cult flick The Green Slime!
This tale from the fifth (and final) issue of the 1952-53 comic book Atom-Age Combat is one of only three stories in the entire series with actual sci-fi or alien elements!
Most of the tales were of the World War III / Atomic War type showing a long-feared "US vs the Russian and/or Chinese Commies" war using advanced technology and limited nuclear weaponry.
While the writer is unknown, the art is by longtime war comics artist Dick Ayers, best-known for Sgt Fury and His Howling Commandos.
