Friday Fun JETTA OF THE 21st CENTURY "Celestial Celebrity"

It's 2018, and high schools still have yearbooks....
...just as this tale of this era from Standard's Jetta of the 21st Century #7 (1953) projected!
It's amazing how little "teen humor" has changed in the 65 years since this tale was published!
With just a little modification, this could easily be a current Archie tale with Dilton Dooley's gizmos getting out of control!
Written and penciled by the legendary Dan DeCarlo, inked by Fred Eng.

BTW, we'd like to extend our thanks to the amazing Kracalactaka, heroic contributor to both the Digital Comic Museum and ComicBookPlus, for these Jetta scans and the ones from last week!
It's people like him who assure that comic book art will be appreciated for generations to come!

Reading Room EVERY DAY IS A HOLLY DAY "Washington's Birthday"

Before they combined Lincoln's and Washington's birthdays into a "floating" holiday...
...Washington's Birthday was celebrated each year on this date!
Why is this comic entitled "Every Day is a Holly Day" instead of "Every Day is a Holiday"?
Because it was given away to kids by grocers who sold Holly Sugar!
Illustrated by John Rosenberger, it's a unique pamphlet covering a number of American holidays, including both Lincoln and Washington's Birthdays (before they were combined into "Presidents' Day"), Mothers' Day (though not Fathers' Day), Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and a couple of holidays we've largely abandoned...Pan-American Day and American Indian Day!
We'll be presenting the other chapters on the dates they fall upon.
Watch for them!

Reading Room OUTER SPACE "Greater Jovians"

We ran a Steve Ditko story about Jovians a couple of weeks ago...
...now here's another one from the same issue of the same comic, but with totally-different Jovians!
Why did the editor run the two stories one-after-another in the same issue?
Why didn't he space them out a couple of issues apart?
We'll never know the answer!

Reading Room ADVENTURES INTO MYSTERY "Dark Side of the Moon!"

Elon Musk's launch of Falcon Heavy and "Starman" restored a long-lost excitement and "sense of wonder"...
...exemplified by this never-reprinted tale from Atlas' Adventures into Mystery #1 (1956)!
Remember, this was even before Sputnik was launched, so we truly had no idea of what was out there beyond what Earth-based telescopes had revealed!
Bob Powell turns in his usual superbly-rendered artwork with distinctive individualistic characters and detailed settings and textures.
The writer is unknown.

Reading Room NORGE BENSON "Interplanetary Olympics"

With Earth's Winter Olympics coming to a close this week...
...it's appropriate we present the future interplanetary version held on, where else, Pluto!
Despite the fact almost all the Planet Comics series have episodes involving aliens from the Solar System, none of the Martians from the various strips match any of the others!
As you may have guessed, continuity was not a strong point in Fiction House's editorial policies!
In addition, though promised in the "next issue" blurb for the Norge Benson story at the end of Planet Comics #24, this story didn't appear until Fiction House's Planet Comics #26 (1943)!
We're restoring it to its' proper place in the story order!
