Reading Room: Alien Invasions: SpaceBusters "Charge of the Battle Women"

Part Two of the Mars Campaign from SpaceBusters #1. Part One can be found HERE.
It's a fascinating look at male-female relationships as shown in comic books of the period, proving those Lois Lane comics and their attitudes towards women weren't an aberration.
BTW, you'll notice the Amazons on the cover (shown below) are wearing considerably less...armor! ;-)
Tomorrow, the conclusion of the Mars Campaign!

Reading Room: Alien Invasions: SpaceBusters "Empress of Belzar"

SpaceBusters was a war comic set in the future.
Think of it as a less-sophisticated version of Starship Troopers, sorta "Sgt Fury or Sgt Rock in Space"!
Interestingly, it featured a woman (albeit noncombatant) as part of the front-line team.
As to the plot...Belzar has invaded our Solar System, managing to conquer everything from Pluto to Mars, with Earth next in line.
However, Earth's military is about to launch a counter-attack...
All three stories  in #1 take place on Mars.
Though we're doing YouTube Wednesday tomorrow, we'll present the other two tales Thursday and Friday!

Don't forget to check out our
which also features SpaceMan Jet!
and here are some War in Space-themed goodies from Amazon!

Dick Tracy Returns!

The dawn of a new day, courtesy of Mike Curtis and Joe Staton!
Noted comics pros Mike Curtis (Richie Rich) and Joe Staton (Green Lantern / E-Man) take over the long-running Dick Tracy newspaper strip as of today!
Created by Chester Gould in 1931, the incorruptible Chicago-based detective has also been the subject of movie serials, tv series (both live action and animated), radio shows, comic books (reprints and new stories), novels and short story anthologies, and a feature film!
BONUS for our faithful fans: Here's the opening credits from an unsold pilot done by 1960s Batman / Green Hornet producer William Dozier!

Reading Room: Alien Invasions: Jet Powers "Thing from the Meteor"

Click on pages to enlarge them
More 1950s alien invaders, this time with a never-reprinted tale from Magazine Enterprises' Jet #1 of Jet Powers aka SpaceMan Jet!
It's a tale that '50s state-of-the-art special effects would've been hard-pressed to do convincingly, but for illustrator Bob Powell, it took only his talented pencil and brush to make you believe a sentient insect could...dare I say it...rule the world!
Of course,  if the insectoid alien invaded today, Earth would've been totally-screwed since both lead-based paint and DDT are now banned!
More sci-fi fun to come in the Atomic Kommie Comics™ Reading Room!
