Frigid Friday Fun PLANET COMICS "Cosmo Corrigan in Martians, Mercurians and Money!"

Yeah, I know the logo says "Cosmic", not "Cosmo"...
...but he's called "Cosmo" in the story itself, as well as the next (and final) tale, so I consider the logo to be a typo!
Now, back to Pluto, the world that makes our current weather look like a balmy summer day!
Be here next Friday for Cosmo's frigid final adventure!
Illustrated by George Tuska (who would handle the Buck Rogers newspaper strip in the 1950s, as well as become Iron Man's illustrator when he received his own book in the 1960s) the scripter for this tale from Fiction House's Planet Comics #10 (1941) is, regrettably, unknown.

Frigid Friday Fun PLANET COMICS "Cosmo Corrigan: Exiled from Earth"

Like Buck RogersFlash Gordon and many other handsome space heroes...
...Cosmo Corrigan had a weird first name.
Unlike them, he was a bit of a screw-up and wise-ass...
...so he was sent to the Solar System's equivalent of Siberia...the frozen planet Pluto, qualifying him for running as part of our new Frigid Friday Fun feature!
Planet Comics was noted for its...well...lack of scientific accuracy, being much more "science fantasy" than hard science fiction (which at least tried to apply known scientific facts to the storytelling).
But this series seems almost like a space opera sit-com, featuring a slacker as the hero!
Sadly, it only ran for three installments...which you'll see over the next few Fridays!
Illustrated by George Tuska (who would handle the Buck Rogers newspaper strip in the 1950s, as well as become Iron Man's illustrator when he received his own book in the 1960s) the scripter for this tale from Fiction House's Planet Comics #9 (1940) is, regrettably, unknown.

Reading Room PLANET COMICS "Star Pirate"

In space, no one can hear you say "Arrr, matey..."
...as this example of the little-known "pirates in space" sub-genre proves!
Like most pirates (who are romantics at heart), Star Pirate is a sucker for a pretty face.
The Star Pirate became a fixture in Planet Comics, running from 1941 until just before the book's cancellation in 1953.
The name "Leonardo Vinci" on this intro tale from #12 (1941) is a pen-name assigned to this particular strip.
The general consensus is that the artist is Al Gabrielle, but the writer is unknown.

Wednesday Worlds of Wonder LOST WORLD "Monsters from the Blue"

With the school to train resistance fighters now secure...
...Hunt Bowman and Lyssa press on with their mission to retake Earth from the Volta invaders!
Will Bowman and his cadets utilize this flying sub (and other similar craft) against the VoltaMen?
Will Earth be freed?
I'm afraid we'll never know!
Sadly, this story from Fiction House's Planet Comics #64 (1950) was the final Golden Age tale of The Lost World.
Though Planet Comics continued for another year, it went all-reprint!
But this is not the end of Hunt Bowman and Lyssa's adventures in Lost World at Wednesday Worlds of Wonder!
Nest week you'll see the only Lost World text feature ever published!
And after that, the Bronze Age reboot of the strip from Blackthorne's all-new Planet Comics!
Don't remember it?

Wednesday Worlds of Wonder LOST WORLD "To Save You, Why Must I Kill You?"

Considering this never-reprinted tale was published over in 1949...

...it's almost frightening to see how applicable the story's moral is to the problems of today's America!
Heroic Hunt Bowman and the duly-elected Earth Council decide on a course of action...gathering the surviving children of North America in a well-prepared location to teach them what they'll need to survive and fight back against the invading VoltaMen.
Rabble-rousers claim Bowman's actions are violating their personal freedom and endangering their children!
(Apparently Republicans survived the invasion from Volta!)
Happily, by the end of the tale, the Repugs...I mean idiots...have learned the error of their ways and the School for Survival is now in session!
Sadly, in the real world, the fools who claim their personal freedom take priority over their survival haven't learned...and may not live long enough to do so!
