Monday Madness WARP: Neal Adams on Broadway!

In 1973, Chicago's Organic Theatre...

...presented their most daring bit of theatre to date..
...a science fiction trilogy!
(You thought George Lucas was the first one to do it?)
After successful runs of all three parts in Chicago, the crew, led by Organic co-founder Stuart (ReAnimator) Gordon, headed for NYC to present the first chapter, "My Body, My Battlefield!"...with some significant upgrades by DC/Marvel artist Neal Adams (1941-2022)!
Besides doing the above poster, plus insert art and the cover for Playbill, Neal did...well, I'll let the Monster Times explain...
Sadly, the Broadway version ran for only eight performances (after a couple of weeks of previews).
It was later revived (using Adams' designs and tech improvements) for another successful run of all three chapters in Chicago!
Plus, WARP became one of the lynchpin series for Chicago-based publisher First Comics when they launched in 1983, with a nine-issue adaption of the entire trilogy featuring art by Frank (Doctor Strange) Brunner and utilizing Neal's designs!
The series then told new stories for the remaining ten issues (plus three Specials).
If there was ever a theatrical project that was ahead of its' time, this was it!
Could the Organic Theatre (which still exists) re-mount it now, utilizing the advanced tech now available for live theatre?
We could only hope...

Russkies in Iran: T-MAN "Death Trap in Iran" & "Trouble's Double"

What happens when you combine Russkies and Iran in a spy story?
Besides a Repug's wet-dream, you get this kick-butt tale from Quality's T-Man #3 (1952)!
But, that's not all!
There's also this sanitized-for-your-protection, Comics Code-modified reprint from Quality's T-Man #31 (1956), which waters down all the kool hard-boiled elements from the original tale...and makes the Russkies into generic "Communists"!

Space Hero Saturdays SPACEHAWK "Martian Election Mayhem"

If you think elections on Earth are hotly-contested...
...wait'll you see how things are handled on the red planet, Mars (which, strangely, is colored green!)

This action-packed tale of electoral mayhem from Novelty's Target Comics #9 (1940) was written, illustrated, and lettered by the one-and-only Basil Wolverton.
The sheer unfettered imagination of the man was astounding, creating vistas and aliens far beyond anything the technology of moviemaking at the time (except for animation) could match.
With the current fascination for high adventure and fantasy, SpaceHawk would be an ideal project for either theatrical or streaming video...and I'm surprised no one is doing it!

Friday Fun CRAZY "Bull Thrower"

For all those who requested...nay, demanded...we post a comic story about bullfighting...
...well, your needs have been answered with this never-reprinted tale from Atlas' Crazy V1N3 (1953)
If the writer ain't Stan Lee, the script reads enough like him (even though his signature doesn't appear on the splash panel) that it's probably a "Stan the Man" editorial revision of someone else's story!
The art is by Al Hartley, who did sign the splash panel.

Reading Room SPACE ACTION "Dangerous Migration of the Baalites"

Where did they come up with some of these weird titles?
Perhaps this never-reprinted tale from Ace's Space Action #2 (1952) will clear up some of the mystery...

The "migration" is a minor plot point.
Personally, I would've gone with something like "The Outlaw Who Saved the Earth" or "Seek Treasure, Find Death!"
But that's just me.
Art is by Bill Molono, the writer is unknown!
