Wednesday Worlds of Wonder LOST WORLD "Escape from Earth!"

Last week we learned that the "present day" in this series was 1982...

..and are now told the invasion occurred seven years earlier, in 1975!

Guess they didn't celebrate the Bicentennial on this Earth...

Of course, the only reason Helena agrees to work with the mutants is because, without a functioning ship, she's trapped on Earth!
Curiously, Helena and the scientists know about Hunt Bowman, probably by monitoring Volta broadcasts, but never attempted to contact him!

BTW, as of this tale from Fiction House's Planet Comics #60 (1949), the remainder of Lost World has never been reprinted, so if you don't own the original comics, this is likely the first time you'll be seeing these stories!

We ran a humorous variation of Alice in Wonderland HERE......

... but here's a story based on Lewis Carroll's tale that combines sci-fi, and a fear many children experience at one time or another...

Penciled by Alex Toth and inked by Mike Peppe, this tale from Standard's Lost Worlds #5 (1952) takes the common kids' fear of toys coming to life and adds imagery from Lewis Carroll's Alice tales to an alien invasion scenario to create a wonderfully-creepy story.

Sadly, the writer of this wild tale is unknown.

Space Force Saturdays SPEED CARTER "Sting of the Scorpion, Cunning of the Centaur"

What's cooler than dealing with an alien menace in deep space?

Why, dealing with two alien menaces (who are also fighting each other) in deep space, of course!

The names of the constellations "Scorpio" and "Sagittarius" are Earth culture-based and their shapes as scorpions and centaurs can only be discerned from Earth.

So, why did evolution produce species that resemble Earth-based creatures in those distant star-systems?

And, why do centaurs have wings?

Probably tight deadlines, because it's an inherently-silly premise.

(And I won't even go into why Johnny says they're crashing into a star, when it's obviously a planet...)

Though next week is the final Space Squadron tale, that's not the end of those series here!

In two weeks, we'll present a gallery of the complete covers from both series along with a couple of interesting foreign variants!
After that...we're still considering if we should go with more military/police space opera (we have several kool series available) or just return Saturday posts to being whatever strikes our fancy!
