Reading Room CRUSADER FROM MARS COMICS "Peek into the Future"

What did the near future of 2019 (or so) look like to readers of the 1950s?
Pretty much like this never-reprinted page from Ziff-Davis' Crusader from Mars #1 (1952)!
You'll note none of the predictions have come to pass...though the last one about cars is in the development stage!

Monday Madness FAIRY TALES "Frog King"

Where do you think the cliche of kissing a frog who turns into a handsome prince comes from?
From the fairy tale this story is based on!
But will you notice one important difference between the comic and the fairy tale?
Hoo boy, is she a fickle bitch or what?
Did you note that she doesn't even kiss the frog?
Both the writer and artist of this re-telling of the classic story from Fairy Tales #11 (1951) are unknown.

Ernie Colon (1931-2019)

Though best known for his Harvey Comics humor work...
...Ernie Colon had an impressive career as a sci-fi/horror/superhero editor/writer/artist as well, including this strip, his first non-humor comics work, in Wham-O Giant Comics (1967), the biggest single comic book in history (21" x 14")!
Ernie penciled and inked the story..and may have written it as well!
We've run a number of his HTF projects including...
I have more Ernie Colon original art in my collection than any other artist's work!
He's one of the unappreciated geniuses of the business, and, now, sadly, he's gone!

Friday Fun SPACE MOUSE "Flying Saucers"

It was the 1950s, and this was a sci-fi (albeit funny animal) strip...
...so it was inevitable they'd do at least one tale about...FLYING SAUCERS!
Of course, if they hauled the suitcase/vehicle to the newspaper office, the editor might have believed them...
Writer/artist Frank Carin told this never-reprinted tale of space, saucers...and suitcases in Avon's Space Mouse #1 (1953)!
And you gotta admit, he had a way of making such an implausible concept as "suitcase/flying cars" work, even if the script reads like a "best of vaudeville" compilation!
And no, I'm not explaing what "vaudeville" was!
If you're not old enough to remember (and I am), Google it!
