Roosevelt Reading Room WORLD AROUND US "Rough Rider"

The World Around Us educational comic series devoted its' 21st issue to American Presidents...
..and while some Presidents received single-page treatments, both the Roosevelts got multi-page stories!
Here's Teddy's tale..
It's interesting to contrast this version with the other Teddy tale from Life Stories of American Presidents, noting what both stories cover and what each leaves out that the other version mentions!
Several artists contributed to this tale, including George Evans, Norman Nodel, and Gerald McCann.
But we're not sure who penciled and/or inked which pages.
The World Around Us editors were notorious for making extensive editorial changes in the name of historical accuracy, and if the original artist didn't have the time to do corrections, the editors would corral whoever was in the office to redraw art.
Tomorrow, World Around Us' bio of FDR...

Roosevelt Reading Room LIFE STORIES OF AMERICAN PRESIDENTS "Franklin D Roosevelt"

While John Buscema was an obvious choice to illustrate the dynamic Teddy Roosevelt...
...he did an equally-superb job on the story of FDR!
Yet another never-reprinted chapter from Dell's Life Stories of American Presidents (1957), wonderfully-illustrated by the man who did the whole 100-page book, John Buscema!

Roosevelt Reading Room LIFE STORIES OF AMERICAN PRESIDENTS "Theodore Roosevelt"

With Ken Burns' The Roosevelts running on PBS...
...we thought we'd show how educational comics portrayed them, beginning with the Rough Rider!
This never-reprinted tale from Dell's Life Stories of American Presidents (1957) features the superb artwork of John Buscema.
Edited (and possibly written) by Helen Meyer.
If you think Buscema did a great job with the dynamic Teddy, wait until tomorrow, when he tackles the wheelchair-bound FDR in a masterful bit of effective storytelling!

Reading Room SPACE FALCON "Pirate of the Stratosphere"

If you're a Golden Age or sci-fi comics fan, you've read the adventures of SpaceHawk...
...but I seriously doubt you've even heard of Space Falcon!
If you don't know who Space Falcon is, it's quite understandable.
His only, never-reprinted, appearance was in PL Publishing's first and only issue of Captain Rocket (1951)!
In fact, PL was one of the least successful comic publishers in history, lasting less than a year and producing only eight titles, none of which ran more than three issues!
