The Coming of...The Black Beetle!

Now, that's kool!
Francesco Francavilla's new retro-style character, The Black Beetle, makes his print debut in Dark Horse Presents #11 this April!
It's on my pull list.

Reading Room: VOYAGE TO THE DEEP "Disaster Rises" Conclusion

We Have Already Seen...
An unnamed enemy has tilted the Earth's axis, creating tsunamis that have already destroyed most of the East Coast south of Washington DC, with the US capital and New York City soon to follow.
The nuclear sub Proteus heads towards the Mariana Trench in an attempt to counteract the threat, but it is attacked by a gigantic sea creature awakened by the catastrophe...
What the hell just happened?
This is, easily, one of the weirdest comics ever published.
I wonder if the other three issues in the series are equally-obtuse...
The never-reprinted tale features art by Sam Glanzman (who also did the Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea feature film adaptation), but the scriptwriter is unknown.

Flash Gordon #6 Cover Preview

There's no Flash Gordon like a "classic" Flash Gordon.
Have you ever noticed that all the attempts to "update" the character modify hm so much as to be unrecognizable?
(Remember the Smallville-ized Sci-Fi, er, SyFy version?)
Thankfully, Dynamite's current series goes back to the basics, combining the best of Alex Raymond's original with the movie serial, feature film, and Filmation tv series to make a kool pastiche almost on the level of the Dini-Timm-McDuffie DC Animated universe.
Top it off with superb covers like this one for #6 by Francesco Francavilla, and it's a must-have package for high-adventure fans of all ages.
