Fantastic Femmes--Cote de Pablo (& Coupon)

Note: this page has been updated with NEW info HERE!
Best-known as Mossad (Israeli Secret Service) agent Ziva David on NCIS, Cote de Pablo is actually Chilean!
Her family moved to the US while she was a child, and she attended arts-oriented schools including Carnegie Mellon University, where she majored in Theater.
Cote began her tv career as a host on the Univision series Control, but soon went on to guest appearances on several comedy and drama series, then starring roles on the short-lived The Jury, and, currently, NCIS.
Trivia: Cote performed the song "Temptation" on the NCIS episode "Last Man Standing". The complete performance is on the NCIS soundtrack cd.
She also appeared on Broadway in The Mambo Kings!
Cote is bi-lingual (Spanish-English), but uses a linguistics coach to help her with Ziva's Hebrew and Yiddish dialogue, which she does phonetically (and sounds pretty convincing). NOTE: Ziva's also been shown to speak French, German, Russian, Turkish, and Arabic, all of which Cote does phonetically.
Genre appearances include...
NCIS (Mossad Liaison Officer, now Probationary Agent Ziva David)
The Jury (Marguerite Cisneros)
TOCA Race Driver [VG] (Melanie Sanchez)

Fantastic Femmes--Heather Langenkamp

Sometimes it's just a matter of being in the right place at the right time.
Heather Langenkamp was attending high school in Tulsa, Oklahoma, near the location filming for the movie The Outsiders.
While hanging around the location, she was offered the chance to be an extra, and then a small speaking role.
From there she went on to full-time performing, including the tv series Just the 10 of Us and three of the Nightmare on Elm Street films.
Recently, she's gone behind the camera doing film production and directing, including sfx work on Evan Almighty, Dawn of the Dead (2004) and Cabin in the Woods (2011) as well as directing the segment "Jessica" in the new horror anthology film Prank.
Trivia: Much of the plot for the film Wes Craven's New Nightmare is based on Heather's experiences with an Elm Street-obsessed stalker.
She runs an environmentally-friendly candy company!

Genre appearances include...
Perversions of Science "Ultimate Weapon"
Never Sleep Again: the Nightmare Legacy (as self)
Wes Craven's New Nightmare (as Heather Langenkamp playing Nancy Thompson)
Shocker (Victim)
Nightmare on Elm Street / Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (Nancy Thompson)

Other actresses to play Nancy Thompson include...

Fantastic Femmes--Nancy Giles

One of the high-points of my weekend is sitting back and watching CBS Sunday Morning while having brunch.
And, one of the too-infrequent joys of that are commentary segments with Nancy Giles.
(While I like Ben Stein, I loathe Mo Rocca, one of the most annoying people to ever appear on-screen. Why CBS doesn't just rotate Nancy and Ben 50-50 is beyond me...)
Though she started out as an actress, with ongoing roles on China Beach and Delta, Nancy seems to have found her niche as a television journalist and commentator, while still doing the occasional supporting tv or film role.
She's also appeared on Broadway and currently writes and performs a one-woman stage show both off-Broadway and regionally.
IMHO, truly a Fantastic Femme!
Genre appearances include...
Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles [VG] (Adi Gallia)
Law & Order "Gov Love"
Dream On (Carolyn)
Jury "Mail Order Mystery"
L.A. Law "BadFellas"
Smuggler's Run II: Hostile Territory [VG] (Robot)
Grand Theft Auto 3 [VG] (Pedestrian)
Joshua (Betsy Polsheck)
SuperHeroes (Barbara Finch)
DollHouse Murders (Librarian)
True Crime (Leesha Mitchell)

Fantastic Femmes--Women of FlashForward

Lynn Whitfield

After last night's ep with both Gina Torres and Gabrielle Union, I couldn't resist the urge to do a page with all the Fantastic Femmes who've appeared on the series so far, along with links to their previous Atomic Kommie Comics™ blog entries!
You'll note we updated their entries to include the FlashForward credits. We'll be doing that for any Fantastic Femmes in the future (as we did with Ming-Na to reflect her role on the new StarGate Universe).

It appears all three actresses will be doing multiple guest appearances!
Now if only they'd do a scene together...

Fantastic Femmes--Brenda Song

Note: this page has been updated with NEW info HERE!
Brenda Song began her career as a child fashion model and quickly moved into tv commercials.
Then, after appearing in guest roles on a variety of tv series, she landed in the Disney talent pool where she was groomed for pop-culture stardom the way many other young performers like Lindsay Lohan, Hillary Duff, Miley Cyrus and Vanessa Hudgens previously had been.
Like them, she became a supporting player in a number of Disney Channel tv movies and ongoing series including The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and Phil of the Future, before being given a "breakout" lead role of her own--Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior, for which the black belt-holding actress did most of her own fight sequences!
While it hasn't generated the resulting media frenzy of, say, Hannah Montana, Wendy Wu did well enough to warrant a sequel and possible ongoing series.
Trivia: Brenda supports charitable causes including St. Jude's Childrens' Hospital and the eco-oriented Disney's Friends for Change.
Genre appearances include...
Boogie Town (Natalie)
Macy's Presents Little Spirit: Christmas in New York (Paige)
Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior / Wendy Wu 2 (Wendy Wu / performer "I'm Not That Girl")
American Dragon: Jake Long (Tracey)
Holidaze: the Christmas That Almost Didn't Happen (Treat)
Phil of the Future (Tia)
Ultimate Christmas Present (Samantha Elizabeth "Sam" Kwan)
100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd (Sariffa Chung)

Fantastic Femmes--Jasika Nicole

Note: this page has been updated with NEW info
HERE!
I'm hooked on JJ Abrams' Fringe!
One of the best-written and acted shows of the past decade.
John Noble as Walter Bishop is an absolute delight to watch in action. Never a dull moment with that guy!
And the season finale with the alternate universe...WOW!
(JJ does have a thing for alternate realities. Think he's gonna tie in Star Trek and LOST into this potential multiverse?)
But there's a mystery even more elusive than ZFT!
Why doesn't Agent Astrid Farnsworth get MORE screen time?
Jasika Nicole is an extremely-talented actress who can easily hold her own on-screen with Noble, Joshua Jackson, or Anna Torv!
C'mon Abrams, give her some time outside the lab!
At least let her shoot somebody! :-)

Fantastic Femmes--Shari Belafonte

Note: this page has been updated with NEW info HERE!
Shari actually began behind the camera (believe it or not) as a freelance production assistant, moving on to a job as Assistant to the Publicist at Hanna-Barbera, the animation studio!
She moonlighted as a fashion model, then dropped her day job altogether to appear in Calvin Klein commercials which led to offers for film and tv work!
Besides tv guest-star and featured film roles, Shari was a regular on the Hotel tv series as Julie Gilette. as well as co-hosting the series Lifestyles with Robin Leach.

With her devotion to personal fitness (including endorsing only diet and nutrition products she personally uses), Shari posed for Playboy magazine at the age of 45, displaying a superbly-toned body many twenty-somethings would be proud to have!
But don't think she's just a pretty face (and amazing body)!
She donates much time and energy to worthy causes including as interantional spokesperson for the Starlight Children's Foundation!

After several years away from national tv or film work, Shari recently appeared on Nip / Tuck.
Hopefully the first of many new roles for this femme fantastique!

Trivia: Shari is the daughter of legendary singer / actor Harry Belafonte.
She's recorded several albums, most of which were released only in Europe, and command high prices on eBay!
Genre appearances include...
Babylon 5: ThirdSpace (Elizabeth Trent)
Mars (Doc Halliday)
Real Adventures of Johnny Quest "Other Space"
Sonic the Hedgehog (Lupé the Wolf)
Beyond Reality (Laura Wingate)
Fire, Ice & Dynamite (Serena)
Velvet (Julie Rhodes)
Gravedale High (Blanche)
Midnight Hour (Melissa Cavender)
Matt Houston "New Orleans Nightmare"
TimeWalker aka Being from Another Planet (Linda Flores)
ABC Weekend Special "Big Hex of Little Lulu"
