Did You Miss the Third Week's Chapters of the Story DC Comics REFUSES to Publish...MONSTER SOCIETY OF EVIL?

Did you know we cracked the Captain Marvel Code which had been ending each chapter!
Remember how I told you the Captain Marvel Code-Finder was a mail-in premium that would enable you to understand the cryptic messages (like this one) in stories?
And that, without it, you'd be as helpless as an Axis spy to figure out what the message was!
And that I didn't have one of the HTF and expensive Code Finders?
Well, guess what?
We don't need it!
On the back of the Captain Marvel Club Membership Card (shown here) is that code!
Since we believe the story has historical significance, and the racism (which we abhor) is part of the tale, RetroBlogs dropped the plans we had for various summer mini-blogathons to re-present the entire, unexpurgated story scanned from the original issues of Fawcett's Captain Marvel Adventures at Hero Histories and Not Safe For Work Comics!
Enjoy, and keep up with the saga Monday through Friday!

Did You Miss the FIrst Week's Chapters of the Story DC Comics REFUSES to Publish...MONSTER SOCIETY OF EVIL?

SHAZAM MONSTER SOCIETY OF EVIL DELUXE EDITION HC
(Writer) Otto Binder (Artists) C. C. Beck, Pete Costanza (Cover Artist) Michael Cho
At first he was simply a disembodied voice on the radio, taunting Captain Marvel with his ever-more-fiendish schemes to conquer the world.
Then, readers gasped as Mr. Mind was revealed-all two inches of him!
Was this lowly creature really the epitome of evil he claimed to be?
Fortunately, Billy Batson understood the folly of underestimating someone based on their size!
As small as he was, Mr. Mind was big trouble-especially once he turned the menacing members of his Monster Society of Evil loose to wreak havoc!

This new title collects the entire 24-chapter serial from the Golden Age of Comics with new essays by Fawcett Comics expert P.C. Hamerlinck and film producer and comics historian Michael Uslan.
Collects stories from Captain Marvel Adventures #22-46!
In Shops: Feb 06, 2019
 Then DC pulled the plug!
After careful consideration, DC announces that the Shazam!: The Monster Society fo Evil Deluxe Edition HC (JUL180783) is cancelled due to concerns over its contents,
This title will not be resolicited.
The mini-series had been reprinted once, in 1989 by American Nostalgia Library in a magnificent oversized hardcover with a run of only 3000 copies.
That edition, seen below, is incredibly HTF.

Steve Ditko on RetroBlogs!

It's no secret we at RetroBlogs are major Steve Ditko fans as you can see from our posts at...
...Secret Sanctum of Captain Video, where we covered some of his work on Get Smart, Gorgo, and Mysterious Traveler!
...Seduction of the Innocent, which showed a Ditko tale that was later re-drawn!
(Who would have the chutzpah to think they could do a better job than Sturdy Steve???)
...Hero Histories, which features one of his greatest co-creations, Captain Atom, one of his greatest creations, Mr A, as well as his only story co-starring The Batman!
...a never-reprinted Civil War tale in War: Past Present and Future...
...even a Western Comics Adventures entry...
...and a Crime and Punishment post!
Was there anything Ditko couldn't do?

The RetroBlogs Mini-Marathons of 2017!

This summer, each RetroBlog presented a different mini-Blogathon, with some crossing-over between blogs...
The biggest Blogathon was the complete presentation of what many consider to be the first true graphic novel... the 132-page St John's digest-sized b/w one-shot It Rhymes with Lust by writers Arnold Drake and Leslie Waller and illustrator Matt Baker!
This was so cross-genre, it'll be appeared in Seduction of the Innocent, Crime & Punishment, True Love Comics Tales, Heroines, here in Atomic Kommie Comics, and in our newest RetroBlog; Not Safe for Work Comics!
You can start the inter-linked saga HERE!
PLUS...
Hero Histories presented two of the never-reprinted adventures of the Silver Age Plastic Man...his (sorta) origin...
and his team-up with Daddy (the Golden Age Plas) and sidekick Woozy Winks!
(BTW, the gorilla doesn't appear anywhere in the issue!)

Western Comics Adventures spotlighted the complete, never-reprinted adventures of a band of diverse wanderers united by tragedy known as The Bravados!

..and its' companion strip Dollar Bill Ca$h!
Plus: the final, never-published Lone Tiger tale, scanned from the original art!

And with the passing of Jerry Lewis, Secret Sanctum of Captain Video dropped it's look at the never-reprinted adventures of Captain Justice...based on the lost TV series Once a Hero...
...to present never-reprinted classic team-ups of DC heroines...
...and heroes with Jerry!
Still to come...Superman and the 1960s Batman & Robin!
BTW, Captain Justice will pop up before Christmas!
We don't want to miss the show's 30th Anniversary!

Sadly, due to the crush of work...and some serious vacation partying...we weren't able to do how the Comics Code altered reprints in sometimes ridiculous ways at Seduction of the Innocent!
Before the Comics Code...
After the Comics Code...
...so that one will be set for Halloween!

How the Comics Code altered reprints in sometimes ridiculous ways is the basis of the blogathon at Seduction of the Innocent!
Before the Comics Code...
After the Comics Code...

War: Past, Present and Future covers the short-lived series Lone Tiger...
..and its' companion strip Dollar Bill Ca$h!

And Secret Sanctum of Captain Video looks at the never-reprinted adventures of Captain Justice...based on the lost TV series Once a Hero...
...along with the secret Stan Lee connection that links the two!

The fun begins after the 4th of July, so come back here where we'll link to the various blogathons!

Prepare for 2016's Thanksgiving Turkey...

Due to time constraints...
...this year's Thanksgiving Turkey is going to be a little smaller, but no less tasty!
(If you haven't read it already, do so!
You won't believe your eyes!)
This year, you'll get to see their final superheroic saga, only 13 issues later!
But, before you reach for the Pepto-Bismol, we'll present the dessert to end all desserts...
...the never-reprinted reboot that also retold the Origin of Blackhawk!
Bring the sweet potatoes, greens of your choice and biscuits starting tomorrow at Hero Histories!

Frankenstein in the Swinging Sixties: ZIK! THWOCK! ARRGH!

The story we showed you HERE was not the Frankenstein Monster's only 1960s comic appearance...
...though some would like to forget this version!
After publishing a very loose adaptation of Universal Pictures' 1931 movie (as seen HERE), Dell decided to ride the "Pop Art" wave and do superhero versions of the various Universal Monsters!
For whatever reason, Universal didn't approve of the concept, but Dell went ahead anyway, removing any visual or story reference to Universal's versions of the characters to avoid trademark and copyright conflicts, utilizing only elements from the original (public domain) novels.
The end results were...unique.
Read them for yourself...if you dare...
(Issue #1 was the movie adaptation!
The superhero version started with #2)

Recapping the RetroBlog Summer Mini-Marathons...

While you were vactioning this summer, every RetroBlog had at least one mini-marathon...
Seduction of the Innocent!! took a look at the never-reprinted Devilina b/w magazine from 1975 with two tales about the title character and two horror mini-classics!
"Merchants of Evil", "Lost Tomb of Nefertiri", Devilina is Coming..., "Devilina: Satan's Domain", and "Devilina Fights Corrupta...in Curse of the Ra Scarb"

At Secret Sanctum of Captain Video, we presented no less than three different, never-reprinted comic versions of this legendary Ray Harryhausen film, including one of them featuring art by the late, great, John Buscema!
Dell's 1950s adaptation Part 1, Part 2, Part 3
Marvel's 1970s adaptation Part 1, Part 2
Legend Horror Classics' 1970s British adaptation

In cross-overs between War: Past, Present, and Future and Hero Histories, we had never-reprinted tales of two World War I aviator-heroes from the 1960s!
After all, it's the 100th Anniversary of World War I and these tales were published during the 50th Anniversary!
G-8 and His Battle Aces Introduction, Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Conclusion
Phantom Eagle Part 1, Conclusion

Hero Histories featured the final, never-reprinted tale of the campy Silver Age version of The Shadow. Part 1, Part 2, Part 3

War: Past, Present and Future also presented another never-reprinted story published in the 1960s, Sgt Fury and His Howling Commandos in...ready for it?...KOREA!
Part 1, Conclusion

What's summer without a good "beach read"?
And there's nothing better than a never-reprinted Gothic Romance at True Love Comics Tales!
You can read every chapter...Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4

Justice didn't take a holiday during the summer, as the 1950s hard-boiled saga of private eye Johnny Dynamite received a re-telling at Crime & Punishment!
"I'll Find That Killer",  "Eye for an Eye!", and "Wire Trap"

Western Comics Adventures presented the never-reprinted 1950s adventures of Davy Crockett by Jack (King) Kirby!
Introduction, "Devil Rapids", "Missing Bullet Hole", "Running Fight", and "King Ram"

Heroines! took a slightly different approach with Phantom Lady's Twice-Told Tales, featuring stories that re-used either scripts or art from earlier tales!
Spitfire Sanders "The Whip" & Phantom Lady "Satan's Seal, "World's Meanest Crook" & "Meanest Men in the World", "Killer Clown" & "Success is No Accident!", "Television Spies" 1.0 & 2.0, and "Soda Mint Killer" & What Price Protection?"

Sadly, due to Google revamping and screwing up their Photos app, where we store all our pix for these blogs, we did not get to...
...the first, never-reprinted, story of the Silver Age Plastic Man by Gil Kane in Hero Histories!
But, it and the remaining, never published in America, stories of Estaban Maroto's Wolff will see re-presentation this autumn!
