Reading Room AMAZING ADULT FANTASY "Beware of the Giants!"

It's not often you see Stan Lee's signature on cover art...

...perhaps because it was probably meant as the title page for the following story (and, to tell the truth, I think the splash page would've been a better cover)...

Hah!

Bet you thought I had forgotten St Patrick's Day, eh? 

This Stan Lee-scripted/Steve Ditko-illiustrated piece from Atlas' Amazing Adult Fantasy #14 (1962) has one fatal flaw...the clothing and archetecture are more mid-European (Germany/Austria/Switzerland) than Celtic (Irish/Scottish)!

BTW, one of the rarely-noted aspects of the book were the kool individualized contents pages for each issue...

Amazing Adult Fantasy Omnibus

Reading Room IMAGINE "Days of Future Past"

Three years before Chris Claremont made it the most famous story title in comics history...

...another comics creator used the Moody Blues' album title Days of Future Passed!

This tale by writer/artist Gene Day from Star*Reach's Imagine #2 (1978) is closer in premise to Ray Bradbury's "A Sound of Thunder" than the Moody Blues' album.

Gene was an amazing up-and-comer in the comics industry who died tragically-young.

Ironically, his death may have been the fault of the comics industry!

Gene is survived by his brothers David and Dan, both of whom still work in publishing (and comics from time to time).

Reading Room PLANET COMICS "Life on Other Worlds: Pluto"

While many in the Midwest and on the East Coast stay home due to blizzard-like conditions...

...let's visit an even colder planet that's no longer a planet (at least officially)...Pluto!

Mind you, Pluto was a planet when this chapter of the ongoing feature Life on Other Worlds appeared in Fiction House's Planet Comics #45 (1946).

In fact, it had only been discovered 16 years earlier and little was known about it beyond the fact that it was out there at the edge of the Solar System!

So, it was a blank slate for sci fi writers to play with, as artist Murphy Anderson and the unknown writer did in this "cool" 2-pager!
