Space Hero Saturdays REX DEXTER OF MARS "SpaceShip of the Living Dead"

This Rex Dexter adventure truly goes where no space hero has gone before...
...battling interplanetary zombies!
This terrifying tale by creator/writer/artist Dick (Frankenstein) Briefer is from Fox's Mystery Men Comics #21 (1941)!
Rex Dexter of Mars was an ongoing feature in Fox Features' anthology Mystery Men Comics, which featured Rex, the original Blue Beetle, and The Green Mask, among others.
It's possible Rex was the first comic character to have his origin revised/altered within a year of his premiere!
HERE'S his origin (and premiere) in Mystery Men Comics #1 (1939).
And HERE and HERE is the expanded/revised/somewhat contradictory new origin tale, from the one-shot Rex Dexter of Mars comic from 1940...a year later!
(To make things even weirder, his first origin tale was reprinted in the Rex Dexter of Mars comic...starting the next page after the revised origin!)
The entire Rex Dexter series has been posted on this blog, and you can read the rest of his awesome adventures by clicking HERE!

Wednesday Worlds of Wonder WALKING DEAD "Beginning of the End" Part 1

It's a world where a former law enforcement officer leads a ragtag group of survivors against an unending zombie horde...

...no, no, not that Walking Dead!
This Walking Dead...

...featuring dead who not only walk, they talk (incessantly), think, and use automatic weapons!
And in this universe, that might just be enough to destroy the living...
You Can Witness the Fearsome Finale...
Next Wednesday!

Created by writer/artist Jim Somerville and published by Malibu/Aircel in 1989, it was vastly-different from the 2003-present graphic novel series created by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore.
For collectors, there's good news and bad news...
Good news: There's only a four-issue mini series and a one-shot Special to collect!
Bad news: Because it didn't sell well (and has never been reprinted), it's HTF (hard to find) and expensive!

I Love Zombies! You Love Zombies! We ALL Love Zombies!

ZOMBIES!
Call them the undead, the unliving, reanimated corpses, or even the ultimate carnivores, zombies are HOT, HOT, HOT!
With The Walking Dead back on tv screens for its' final season, zombies have never been more popular!
But it, as well as all the other films and tv series currently featuring zombies owe a debt to the visual depictions of the shambling undead from the horror pulps and comics of the Golden Age (1930s-1950s)!
Like video games today, those periodicals were deemed so harmful to the psyches of impressionable youths that the government held hearings about possibly banning them altogether!
The comics industry barely survived, but ended up toning down horror comics to a mere shadow of their blood-dripping selves, only recently, in the 1990s, returning in all their gruesome glory!
Even with modern technology, today's zombie flix are hard pressed to match these classic comics for visceral visual thrills.
So, it's with pardonable pride that Atomic Kommie Comics™ re-presents some of the creepiest and koolest covers from those bygone days, digitally-restored and remastered, on a line of collectibles including mugs, hoodies, and book/messenger bags!
If you're looking for a birthday or holiday present for a fan of the "life-impaired" (or a Halloween treat for yourself), why not combine one of our kool kollectibles with one of the books or DVDs available on-line or at brick-and-mortar stores?

Friday Fun / Humor in a Jugular Vein CRAZY "Zombie!!"

As All Hallows Eve (Halloween to you under-60s) approaches...
...I'm in a "shambling undead" mood, so here's a never-reprinted, tawdry tale about...you know...

For the record, we ran "Wolf Man" last week!

Veteran writer/artist Bill Everett seemed to enjoy going from his usual realistic style to a much more-detailed variation of Bill Elder's work on EC's MAD and Panic, as this story from Atlas' Crazy V1N4 (1954) displays.
