Wednesday Worlds of Wonder LOST WORLD "To Save You, Why Must I Kill You?"

Considering this never-reprinted tale was published over in 1949...

...it's almost frightening to see how applicable the story's moral is to the problems of today's America!
Heroic Hunt Bowman and the duly-elected Earth Council decide on a course of action...gathering the surviving children of North America in a well-prepared location to teach them what they'll need to survive and fight back against the invading VoltaMen.
Rabble-rousers claim Bowman's actions are violating their personal freedom and endangering their children!
(Apparently Republicans survived the invasion from Volta!)
Happily, by the end of the tale, the Repugs...I mean idiots...have learned the error of their ways and the School for Survival is now in session!
Sadly, in the real world, the fools who claim their personal freedom take priority over their survival haven't learned...and may not live long enough to do so!

Wednesday Worlds of Wonder LOST WORLD "Brute in the Bubble"

This kool cover, though it does feature Lyssa and Voltamen...

...has nothing to do with the story inside!
The so called "brute in the bubble" turns out to be a potential friend!
But questions abound!
Why do they call themselves "mummy-men" when they look like humanoid canines?
And what planet did they come from?
We may never know the answers...

Wednesday Worlds of Wonder LOST WORLD "Escape from Earth!"

Last week we learned that the "present day" in this series was 1982...
..and are now told the invasion occurred seven years earlier, in 1975!
Guess they didn't celebrate the Bicentennial on this Earth...
Of course, the only reason Helena agrees to work with the mutants is because, without a functioning ship, she's trapped on Earth!
Curiously, Helena and the scientists know about Hunt Bowman, probably by monitoring Volta broadcasts, but never attempted to contact him!
BTW, as of this tale from Fiction House's Planet Comics #60 (1949), the remainder of Lost World has never been reprinted, so if you don't own the original comics, this is likely the first time you'll be seeing these stories!

Wednesday Worlds of Wonder LOST WORLD "Volta's Vichy Vassal"

We finally discover what far-distant future era Lost World takes place in...
...1982???
Well, when this tale from Fiction House's Planet Comics #59 (1949) was published, it was the "far future"...

The title reference is to the puppet government Nazi Germany installed in southern France to attempt to convince the French they weren't really conquered and occupied.
The implication was that if the Resistance stopped operations, northern France could be given (illusory) self-governance again!
It didn't work.
