Reading Room ADVENTURES INTO THE UNKNOWN "Man in the Mirror"

I've worked on-and-off in the comics industry since 1982...
...and I've never experienced a situation like this guy goes through!
(I've never seen anyone wear a suit jacket at their desk, either. But that's another story...)
This reflective story ACG's Adventures into the Unknown #9 (1950) was probably written by editor Richard Hughes and was illustrated by pulp artist Robert S Pious, who worked on-and-off in comics from 1940 to 1955 before moving into book publishing and later, fine arts.

Friday Fun YAK YAK "How to Win Friends"

Sometimes, we need to get away from current events...
...and just enjoy a good laugh, courtesy of legendary writer/artist Jack Davis!
From Dell's Four-Color Comics #1186 (1961)
Dell gave MAD mainstay Jack Davis his own title in the Four Color Comics series, to do with as he pleased.
The series, Yak Yak (subtitled "A Pathology of Humor") only ran two issues, but they were pure Davis, who wrote, penciled, inked, and colored the whole project as well as providing painted covers for both issues!
It's never been reprinted, except for excerpts here and there.
Hopefully, somebody will do so in the near future...

Reading Room CAPTAIN SCIENCE COMICS "Flower of Death"

In sci fi/fantasy, meteors and meteorites often brought aliens to Earth...
...as in this never-reprinted tale from Youthful's Captain Science #5 (1951) shows!
NOTE: May be NSFW due to politically-incorrect ethnic stereotypes.
Both the writer and artist(s) of this odd tale (that would've made a kool B-movie) are unknown!

Wednesday Worlds of Wonder LOST WORLD "Betrayal by Basil"

...now let's continue, and keep an eye on one of the cast (guess who?)!
Note, though Earth of the Future isn't initially the series title's "Lost World" it eventually is inferred to be the planet the title refers to, dinve most of the tales after this are located there.
(It's much like Detective Nick Charles isn't The Thin Man, who was the novel's murder victim, but Nick became identified to the audience by that name!)
The artist round-robin continues with little-known illustrator Pagsilang Rey Isip taking over the strip for a single issue with this strip from Planet Comics #23 (1943)!
Isip was a pulp magazine and movie poster illustrator whose brief stopover in comics only ran for three years and several dozen stories, mostly for Fiction House.
Next Week...
...the return of 1990s cyber-weirdness with Harsh Realm!

Reading Room WORLD OF FANTASY "Iron Hulk!"

Just before it transformed into MarvelAtlas Comics was heavy into sci-fi...
...and I'm talking more than the giant monsters like Googam that most people think of.
(Though they were pretty kool...)
This never-reprinted tale from Atlas' World of Fantasy #19 (1959), scripted by either Stan Lee or Larry Lieber, is cliched beyond belief.
The reason I'm re-presenting it is to showcase the lovely art by Joe Sinnott.
While most of you know Sinnott as one of the best inkers in the business, he was also a competent penciler as well.
Ironically, Joe didn't ink much of his own pencil work, since it was subcontracted by Vince Colletta's prolific studio for use by CharltonGold Key, and Dell and inked by Colletta!
