Friday Fun JETTA OF THE 21st CENTURY "My Cosmic Hero"

With hope that the CoronaVirus pandemic will start winding down soon...
...let's look at a typical evening at the drive-in (whose popularity has soared due to the aforementioned pandemic), supposedly set in the early 21st Century (aka NOW)...as presented in 1952!
(I'm still waiting for my flying car!)

If the art style looks familiar, it's the work of Dan DeCarlo, who helped establish the iconic "look" of Archie Comics!
Dan actually started at Atlas Comics (the 1940s-50s predecessor to Marvel Comics) doing a variety of humor strips before beginning a long-term run on various Archie titles in 1951.
Even then, he continued to work for a number of other publishers, including Standard Comics, who asked him to create, write, and illustrate a teen-humor series.
(Every publisher had at least one of them!)
Exactly whose idea it was to set it in the "far future" of the early 21st Century is unknown, but the resultant strip, though extremely derivative of Archie, was unique in the teen-humor genre for it's Jetsons-style setting and "futuristic" slang.

Dan DeCarlo's Jetta

Monday Madness JETTA OF THE 21st CENTURY "Pardon My Power!"

It's January, 2021, so it's the season for FOOTBALL!
...or football as shown in the "future" (our present), as presented in 1952...69 years ago!

If the art style of this tale from Standard's Jetta of the 21st Century #6 (1953) looks familiar, it's the work of Dan DeCarlo, who helped establish the iconic "look" of Archie Comics!

The final part of our Summer Mini-Blogathon is underway...

Design of the Week LITTLE WOMEN

Each week, we post a limited-edition design, to be sold for exactly 7 days, then replaced with another!
Yeah, it's not the usual comic art we run on kool kollectibles, but Louisa May Alcott's classic Little Women is a pop-culture phenomenon, still going strong 150 years later!
The trials and tribulations of Meg, Beth, Jo, and Amy March are still as relevant today as they were then, as the new, updated, movie version opening this week demonstrates!
So, if you're looking for a kool Little Women kollectible for yourself or a significant other, check it out HERE!

Give the Christmas Gift That Keeps On Giving ALL YEAR LONG!

One of our favorite types of pop culture collectible here at the Atomic Kommie Comics™ offices are calendars, in particular the multi-page 12-month kind, with a different illustration for each month.

I have over a decade's worth of James Bond 007 movie poster calendars.
Each year the new one adorns the wall over my computer.
When the year is over, I cut it up and use the art the next year as mini-posters to decorate whatever vacation place I rent during the summer.
Besides 007, over the years, I've picked up, or been given, various Star Trek, Star Wars, DC, Marvel, and other licensed property calendars.
I've always enjoyed using them, and often thought of the person who gave them to me!

But, there are pop culture categories and subjects that we've wanted in calendar form as presents for others (or for ourselves), but were never produced!
So, we decided to create them, using the wildest, rarest, kitchiest comic book and pulp magazine covers & movie posters we could find, each image digitally-restored and remastered from hi-rez scans of the original items, NO reprints or low-rez files!
Only $19.99 each!

Len Wein (1948-2017)

Most remember Len Wein for co-creating Swamp Thing, Wolverine, and the All-New, All-Different X-Men...
FOOM Magazine #10 Cover Original Art by Dave Cockrum
(...particularly, Storm, Colossus, and NightCrawler.)
But I prefer to remember his earlier, quirky projects like...
Hot Wheels #6 Cover Art by Neal Adams & Dick Giordano
Hot Wheels
(based on the cartoon series based on the toy line)
Wild West Action #1 Cover Art by Syd Shores and Mike Esposito
The Bravados
(An ethnically-diverse assortment of Western heroes)
and his (believe it or not)...
Secret Hearts #148 Contents Page Art by Gray Morrow
...romance comics work!
Len was not a one-trick pony!
He had an interest in almost everything imaginable...and it showed in his work.
BTW, all the links are to material that hasn't been reprinted since publication in the early 1970s!
Check them out!
BONUS: Here's the printed version of the X-Men-themed cover for Marvel's FOOM #10...
...and that's why I wanted to run the original art!
The two-color (as compared to comics' usual four-color) printing really muddied up the art!
