Reading Room JUNGLE JIM "Wizard of Dark Mountain"

When Jungle Jim returned to comic books in the 1960s in new stories...
...the usually "realistic" high adventure strip jumped head-first into all-out sci-fi/fantasy!
Written and laid-out by Bhob Stewart, pencilled by Steve Ditko, and inked by Wally Wood. this cover-featured story from Charlton's Jungle Jim #22 (1969) was prepared for the character's previous publisher, King Comics, but ended up at Charlton when King Features Syndicate dropped in-house comic book publishing.
You can read Bhob's account of how this story was produced HERE.

Reading Room SPACE VOYAGERS "Four Faces of Death"

...but the Space Voyagers are still an amazing team of interstellar explorers making their "trippy" way through the universe!
Sadly, we won't find out what happened to the "twins", or the "real" Space Voyagers!
There were only five Space Voyagers tales by Robert Kanigher and Alex Nino, all of which saw print as backups in DC's short-lived 1970s title Rima the Jungle Girl...and none of which have ever been reprinted!
However, as of this post, we've re-presented the complete series on this blog and you can read them all just by clicking HERE!

Reading Room SPACE VOYAGERS "Queen Ant"

It's been a while since we looked in on the never-reprinted, psychedelic adventures of the Space Voyagers...
...but, if you have a phobia about insects, it may be the wrong time to check them out!
This kool Robert Kanigher-written, Alex Nino-illustrated tale from DC's Rima the Jungle Girl #5 (1974-75) is the quartet's final published appearance, but we still have one more stand-alone Space Voyagers tale to tell...coming soon!

Reading Room: Space Voyagers "Delta Brain"

...well, I guess that pretty well covers it.
Let's continue...
I don't think good 'ol James T Kirk could've handled that situation any better!
Scripted by Robert Kanigher, illustrated by Alex Nino, this never-reprinted tale from DC's Rima the Jungle Girl #2 (1974) showcases both the writer's and artist's storytelling strengths, demonstrating you can tell an effective tale in only two five-page segments.
It's an art that, sadly, seems to be lost to today's creators.

Reading Room: Space Voyagers "Four Tombs"

After too long a period, we rejoin the...
...as they continue their never-reprinted adventures from the 1970s!
Note the script credit for this tale from DC's Rima the Jungle Girl #1 (1974) is incorrect.
Robert Kanigher penned the story, not Jack Oleck.
The unmistakable art is by the underappreciated Alex Nino.

Reading Room: Space Voyagers "Hot Spot"

Every few years in comics, there's a short-lived never-reprinted sci-fi space adventure series...
In the 1970s, it was DC's Space Voyagers, appearing in the back of Rima the Jungle Girl.
Though this is the origin tale, it appeared in Rima the Jungle Girl #3 (1974), after a two-parter (set after the events of this tale) ran in #1 & #2!
(Oddly, the pilot episode of the Classic Star Trek tv series, "Where No Man has Gone Before", aired as the third episode of that series.)
Scripted by Robert Kanigher and illustrated by Alex Nino, the series ran thru the first five issues of Rima before disappearing.
