Yesterday We Presented the First Entry in a Trilogy of Stories...

...from one of the first "shared universes" in fantastic fiction!

Now, another author we've all heard of adds to the storyline...

Appearing the issue after Robert Bloch's "Shambler From the Stars", this adaptation of H P Lovecraft's response to that tale by writer Ron Goulart, penciler Gene Colan and inker Dan Adkins, continues building on elements and aspects of the Cthuthu Mythos, mentioning events, items, and even characters that played roles in future stories!
However, the man who began the exploration of the universe of the Elder Gods, Lovecraft humself, passed away shortly after writing this story!

We Have Already Seen...

Title Page from the first appearance of this tale, in Weird Tales V11N2 (1928)!

Inheriting the papers and personal effects of his late grand-uncle, linguistic professor George Gammell Angell, our narrator discovers a small bas-relief sculpture which yields "simultaneous pictures of an octopus, a dragon, and a human caricature", along with documents mentioning frequent references to Cthulhu and R'lyeh!

Tracing the documented incidents leads to a larger statue of indeterminate, but undeniable antiquity...perhaps predating known history...

We Have Already Witnessed...

James Allison lies on his deathbed, re-living a past life.

A millennia or more ago, he was Niord, a barbarian prince and warrior, defending his people, the Aesir, from all manner of threats, both human and inhuman.

Aided by Gorm, a Pict he defeated in battle but refused to kill, who then became an ally, he guides his people to a new home...

Note: Though Niord says his people are of "Asgard", it's doubtful, even though this tale is now canon in the Marvel Multiverse, that he refers to the mystical Asgard of Norse legend.

Bonus: Here's the title page from the story's first publication in Weird Tales V23N02 (1934), featuring both Niord and the "Worm", illustrated by Hugh Rankin.
