Reading Room ALARMING TALES "Secret Weapon"

We've worried about homeland security for decades...
...but, quite frankly, we're damned good at it!
OK, maybe we haven't produced an invisibility device/formula...yet, but we Americans can handle anything terrorists can thtrow at us, as this never-reprinted Silver Age story from Harvey's Alarming Tales #4 (1958) shows!
BTW, it's written bJack Oleck (a talented novelist and comic book writer who was the brother-in-law of Alarming Tales editor Joe Simon) and illustrated by Johnny Quest's co-creator Doug Wildey!

Reading Room: UNEARTHLY SPECTACULARS "Hidden World"

"Men in Black" were here long before the 1990s comic (much less the movies)...
...as this never-reprinted story from Harvey's Unearthly Spectaculars #1 (1965) by Doug (Jonny Quest) Wildey shows!
The story was probably part of the inventory of material left over by the cancellation of Race for the Moon in 1960.
After all, in 1965, Wildey was far too busy working on both Jonny Quest, and the Marvel Super-Heroes animated series in California to do comic book work in NYC!

Reading Room THRILL-O-RAMA "Old Hulk"

A never-reprinted tale from an influental artist...
...whose greatest contributions were to animation, not comics!
(And no, it's not Alex Toth!)
During the mid-1960s, Harvey Comics jumped back into superhero and sci-fi/fantasy comics with several titles combining a mixture of reprints and new material.
This tale from Thrill-O-Rama #1 (1965) was one of the "new" ones, though it's likely left over from Harvey's previous sci-fi anthology, Race for the Moon (1958).
Though the writer is unknown, the artist is Doug Wildey, who spent several years in comics, but found working in tv animation steadier and more profitable!
His many credits include Jonny Quest, Godzilla, and, Return to the Planet of the Apes!
