Friday Fun / CoronaVirus Comics CHILLING ADVENTURES IN SORCERY TOLD BY SABRINA "Ultimate Cure"

Archie Comics doing a horror comic isn't unusual...
....but AfterLife with Archie, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina or even Jughead: the Hunger this ain't!
Not exactly the usual wholesome Archie fare, eh?
Written by Frank Doyle, penciled by Stan Goldberg, and inked by Jon D'Agastino, this lead story from Archie's Chilling Adventures in Sorcery Told by Sabrina #2 (1972) was their contribution to the industry-wide "monsterization" bright on by the loosening of restraints by the Comics Code Authority in 1971.
Why it was deliberately-done in the Archie "house style" remains a mystery to this day!
(To be fair, when Archie jumped on the Batman/James Bond fad of the mid-1960s, their comics featuring the Riverdale crew as either super-heroes or spies were also illustrated in the humorous "house style"!)
After two issues, the book was reformatted as a realistically-illustrated traditional horror comic, running nine more issues.
Sabrina didn't appear in them...

CoronaVirus Comics DEATH RATTLE "Masque of the Red Death"

We've run numerous adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe's classic short story...
...but this is the actual bone-chilling tale, uncut!
Illustrated by Daryl Hutchinson. this never-reprinted story from Kitchen Sink's Death Rattle V2N13 (1987) is fascinating, combining the complete centuries-old text with art that deliberately tries to evoke the style of 1930s-40s pulp artists like Virgil Finley and Hannes Bok!

Wednesday Worlds of Wonder / CoronaVirus Comics CONAN THE BARBARIAN ANNUAL "Bride of the Oculist!" Part 2

Richel, an oculist relates the tale of Narada (his unfaithful wife), Tolkan (her current lover), Conan, and the malady he, Richel, created that binds them all together...
Hard to believe, but this issue was approved by the Comics Code Authority!
Guess they considered Hyborian Era STDs to be "fantasy"...
Scripted by Christopher Priest (as "James C Owlsey"), and illustrated by Ernie Chan/Chua (with an assist on layouts by John Buscema), this never-reprinted tale from Marvel's Conan the Barbarian Annual #11 (1987) is easily the most "adult" Conan color comic adventure ever!
Note: Marvel didn't introduce their ratings labels (All Ages/Mature/etc) until 2001.
Payback's a bitch as you'll see when this story concludes...

CoronaVirus Comics ACTION COMICS "Three Aces vs the Serum Stealer"

Not every feature in DC's Action Comics has been Superman-caliber material...
...including this series featuring middle-aged aviators!
This never-reprinted tale about opportunism during a medical emergency from DC's Action Comics #39 (1941) resonates today since some individuals and businesses are taking advantage of shortages of equipment (like masks and hand sanitizer) and medications during the Covid-19 pandemic!
Written by Gardner Fox and illustrated by Chad Grothkopf, it's a solid, simple tale, just not very "flashy" as compared to the lead feature (You-Know-Who).
Despite that, they had a fairly long run in Action from #16 through #63.
BTW, The Three Aces constantly-state (as in this tale) that they flew in "the World War".
Since America hadn't entered World War II as of the time of publication, it was a clear reference to World War I (15 years earlier), which would have made the youngest of them in their late-30s, at least!
As of Action #47 (1942) they rejoined the military, serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Roosevelt (Theodore, not Franklin).
Note: there wouldn't be a real aircraft carrier named "USS Theodore Roosevelt" until 1986!
