Friday Fun TALES CALCULATED TO DRIVE YOU BATS "Tin Pan Folly"

"Tin Pan Alley" was the name for a group of influential music publishers/licensors...
...mostly located on West 28th Street between 5th and 7th Avenues in NYC due to the cheap rents at the time.

This Joe Edwards-written and illustrated story from Archie's Tales Calculated to Drive You Bats #5 (1962) points out many in the music industry thought rock-and-roll was just a fad.
Yet here we are in 2020 and rock-and-roll, though altered and enhanced, is still the predominant form of popular music!
It also shows that music companies thought (and still think) performers are interchangeable!

Trump Reading Room: YOUR VOTE IS VITAL!

I was planning to run something different today...
...but after seeing this headline...
TRUMP RAISES IDEA OF DELAYING ELECTION
...I felt compelled to re-run this tale!
Here's a handy (very) basic guide...
Illustrated by Warren Kremer and Al Avision, this one-shot published by Harvey Comics in 1952 (68 years ago) was offered for only a couple of pennies a copy to anyone who wanted to utilize it to get out the vote!
Amazing how it's both generic and pertinent even decades later!
Note: Our gratitude to the ever-amazing Kracalactaka for the scans of this ultra-rare comic!
Now, unless you want things to stay as they are...or get worse...if you're over 18 and under 110...

Reading Room ATOM-AGE COMBAT "Puzzle"

Besides tales of the US and USSR fighting World War III...
...Atom-Age Combat featured tales of combat versus aliens on other worlds, as well!
Note: the last page was the inside back cover of the comic, so it's just black-and-white.
Illustrated by Dick Ayers, this tale from Fago's Atom-Age Combat #3 (1959) touches on an interesting idea.
Someone's keeping us from leaving Earth...but they're also keeping others from approaching Earth!
Were they protecting us from them...or them from us?
Since this was the final tale in the final issue of the series, we'll never know the answer...
BTW, this was the second series called "Atom-Age Combat"!
The first was published by St John Comics with five issues in 1952-53 and a one-shot in 1958.
Fago Publications bought the title when St John dropped it's comic line, continuing the numbering from the one-shot and producing two issues.
Fago itself only lasted from 1958-59.
