See It NOW, Before It Goes to Broadway...and becomes a LOT MORE EXPENSIVE!

Legendary cartoon character Betty Boop has returned to pop culture prominence in a big way...

(Hey, it worked for Little Orphan Annie!)
Photo: Mark Seliger
Starring gorgeous Broadway veteran Jasmine Amy Rogers as the embodiment of Betty,
...the show looks like an absolute hoot!

With award-winning creatives handling writing, directing, and production
(including effects like transitioning the cast and sets from black and white to color on stage), the production should appeal to old (who remember the cartoons) and young, who will be introed to the pop art icon!
If you're in the Chicago area now through Christmas Eve, see

November: the Month Betty Boop Returns...

As for us, we're turning our "sister" RetroBlog, Heroines, over to Betty for November, beginning tomorrow with Betty's first comic strip...which wasn't really her strip!
(Don't worry, we'll explain tomorrow!)
The week of November 13th, you'll see the appropriately-entitled 1990 one-shot comic...
by comics pros (and major Betty-philes) Leslie Carbaga, Joshua Quaqmire, and Milton Knight!
Finally, starting the day after Boop! the Musical's November 19th premiere, you'll see the first couple of months of Betty's actual comic strip!
Check Out
Heroines!

and, if you're in the Chicago area over Thanksgiving, see

Space Heroine Saturdays TARA "Satellite of the Moon Spiders!"

Tara's home, Wonder Comics, had been cancelled...
...but there was still one graphic tale of fighting interplanetary injustice to be told!
Our Space Heroine's final comic story appeared in Standard's Thrilling Comics #71 (1949), illustrated by her co-creator Gene Fawcette.
But, this isn't her last appearance in Space Heroine Saturdays!
What does that mean?
You'll find out next month!

Space Heroine Saturdays TARA "Death that Grew!"

You think COVID-19 was bad?
How about a disease created as a biological weapon, as in this never-reprinted tale illustrated by Gene Fawcette?
The writer for this never-reprinted tale from Nedor's Wonder Comics #20 (1948) is (as usual) unknown.
This was the final issue of Wonder Comics...but not then end of the adventures of the Queen of the Space Pirates!
Tara will return with a final tale from another Nedor comic as well as several illustrated text features we haven't run yet, and a cover art gallery!

Space Heroine Saturdays TARA "Secret Bride of Bharbon!"

Risking her life to protect the innocent...
...Tara (along with her pair of somewhat-merry men) continues her quest through deep space!
While the writer's credit is unknown, the art for this never-reprinted tale from Nedor's Wonder Comics #19 (1948) is by Gene Fawcette.

Space Heroine Saturdays TARA "Key of the Cuchin Van!"

We continue the space-spanning saga of Tara, Queen of the Space Pirates
...with this tale from Nedor's
Wonder Comics #18 (1948).

The Grand Comics DataBase lists Gene Fawcette, who did the previous stories, as the penciler/inker, but it looks like fellow Wonder Comics artist George Roussos, who used a more standardized layout and looser inking style.

Space Heroine Saturdays TARA "Eight Hands of Tenslith!"

Prowling the spaceways, robbing from the rich to give to the poor...

We continue the space-spanning saga of the Queen of the Space Pirates with this tale from Nedor's Wonder Comics #17.

Art was, again, by Gene Fawcette, one of the better illustrators of the period, who usually penciled and inked his sci-fi, horror, and good-girl material (or strips that combined them like Tara) for Fiction HouseAvon, and Better.
BTW, the cover for this issue features characters from the Tara story that appeared in Wonder Comics #16.
You can see the cover, along with her second appearance HERE.
