Reading Room INVINCIBLE IRON MAN "Frenzy in a Far-Flung Future!" Conclusion

We Have Already Seen...

...teleported to a future Earth where his invention, an artificial intelligence system called Cerebrus, has taken control of humanity, Tony Stark is sentenced to death by rebels who believe if they kill him before he creates Cerebrus, the future will be changed!

Before the sentence can be carried out, drones sent by the AI invade the rebels' refuge and Stark, along with Krylla (a scientist who disagreed with killing Tony), escape in the confusion.
In the ruins of a nearby museum, the duo discover an intact set of Iron Man armor which Tony's chestplate battery charges just in time...as...

The idea of Tony Stark creating an AI like Cerebrus was utilized in the movie Avengers: Age of Ultron, where Ultron (created in Avengers comics around the same time as this story, but by Henry [Goliath] Pym) was also devised to help mankind, but went rogue.
This never-referenced-since story from Marvel's Invincible Iron Man #5 (1968), written by Archie Godwin, penciled by George Tuska, and inked by Johnny Craig is one of several "pocket universe" stories that occurred around this time at Marvel. which didn't usually do alternate universe tales like DC's Earth-One/Earth-Two/etc. multiverse to explain contradictory continuity elements.
Of course, all that's currently gone out the window with both DC and Marvel rebooting everything on an annual basis...

Reading Room INVINCIBLE IRON MAN "Frenzy in a Far-Flung Future!" Part 1

As Artificial Intelligence (AI) Threatens to Dominate Everyday Life...

...let's have a look at how popular fiction dealt with this concept in the pre-digital era of the Swinging '60s!

To Be Concluded on Thursday!

Monday Mecha Madness SHOGUN WARRIORS "Raydeen!" Part 1

We're Going Mecha at Monday Madness...

...as we feature robots big and small, some sentient, some controled by humans and/or aliens!

You'll have to wait until next Monday to learn the backstory created by writer Doug Moench, penciler Herb Trimpe and inker Dan Green in this never-reprinted tale from Marvel's Shogun Warriors #1 (1979)!
(They ignored all the backstory and plotlines used in the Japanese animated series and packaging info for the toys.)
But we're not totally-heartless!
Here's a kool video about how the Shogun Warriors were assembled by Mattel out of three totally-unrelated robots, all with their own animated series from different Japanese TV studios, but all the toys were from the same Japanese toy company, Popy!

You'll note the TV commercials have the robots interacting with Godzilla, also from Mattel, but the characters never met up in the comics, although both the Godzilla and Shogun Warriors series were drawn by Herb Trimpe!
In fact, Mattel utilized Herb's artwork in some of their advertising!

Frigid Friday Fun ARRGH! "Beauty and the Bigfoot!"

As the Deep Freeze continues...
Art by Marie Severin and Alfredo Alcala
...lets look at a half-century old, never-reprinted tale about someone who actually enjoys this sort of weather!
Written by Don Glut, penciled by Mike Sekowsky, and inked by Mike Vosburg, this story about the legendary Sasquatch appeared in Marvel's Arrgh! #3 (1974) as a new surge of interest in the creature swept America.
Most older pop culture fans remember that a Sasquatch/Bigfoot appeared several times on both The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman (including a two-part crossover), played initially by pro wrestler/actor Andre the Giant, and later by Ted (Lurch) Cassidy!
This particular Bigfoot was an alien-created cyborg in a plotline that combined the twin 1970s fads of Bigfoot and Chariots of the Gods!
It was also one of three "enemy" figures released (as "Bionic Bigfoot: the Sasquatch Beast") in Kenner's Six Million Dollasr Man/Bionic Woman action figure series! (The others were a Fembot and Maskatron/Mr X!
