Monday Madness (Delayed) FANTASTIC COMICS "Space Smith and the Weapon Smugglers"

Since Monday was Labor Day, we ran a special strip...
...but we didn't want to deprive you of the Western-in-space adventures of Space Smith!
In the old days, smugglers would sell rifles to the Indians!
Now it's ray-guns to space pirates!

Monday Madness FANTASTIC COMICS "Space Smith and the Spouse-Slayer"

The switch from using gangster movie plots reset in the far future...
...to Western movie plots reest in the far future continues as we substitute spaceships for stagecoaches!
Whoever the writer is, (s)he had become incredibly lazy!

Friday Fun REX DEXTER OF MARS "Nemesis of the Neekians"

Just another day in the cosmos for our hero...
...ok, maybe not a typical day...
"Will we ever reach Mars, Rex?"
After a year of constant re-routing and diversions, what do you think dear reader?
As a bonus, Briefer included another of those kool "make your own spaceship" schematics!

Monday Madness FANTASTIC COMICS "Space Smith and the Interplanetary Outlaws"

The past few weeks' Space Smith strips were based on gangster movie plots!
This week's space opera is based on cinematic horse operas (Westerns)!
Substitute "gold/silver mine map" for "hidden planet location map", six-shooters for ray guns, and wagon/stagecoach for spaceship, and the transposition in this never-reprinted tale from Fox's Fantastic Comics #19 (1941) is obvious!

Friday Fun REX DEXTER OF MARS "Cranian Conquest of Earth"

Another Friday, another chapter about Rex Dexter almost reaching Mars...
...another chapter of Rex Dexter saving Earth again!
What is it with this guy?
For God's sake, go home to Mars already!
Let Earth fend for itself for once!
Well, you have to give Dick Briefer creadit for being able to do variations on a theme in this never-reprinted tale from Fox's Mystery Men Comics #17 (1940)!
The Cranians are the weirdest humanoid-type aliens I've seen in awhile, even if their design isn't very practical!

Monday Madness FANTASTIC COMICS "Space Smith and the Case of the Criminal Cousin"

When I said this strip was using old gangster movies for plots, I wasn't kidding...
...as this never-reprinted adventure from Fox's Fantastic Comics #18 (1941) clearly demonstrates!
And both Space and Diana get into civilian (1940s-style) clothing for the finale!

Friday Fun REX DEXTER OF MARS "Diamonds Aren't a Planet's Best Friend"

Once more, Earth comes under attack by aliens...
...and only Rex Dexter can save the planet from certain destruction!
(Do I sense a potential meme here?)
"Off to Mars, again!"???
They haven't been there since they left to travel to Earth in Fox's Mystery Men Comics #1!
Rex and Cynde usually end up detouring back to Earth to save its' sorry butt...again and again!
Including this never-reprinted tale from Fox's Mystery Men Comics #16 (1940), over half of Rex's adventures consist of helping Earth...a planet, I might add, that booted him out!
We should retitle this strip "Rex Dexter: Interplanetary SUCKER"!
