Wednesday Worlds of Wonder LOST WORLD "Of Vultures and VoltaMen!"

...and it appears secrets from the distant past are about to be revealed!
Thanks to this tale from Fiction House's Planet Comics #56 (1948), we now know the Martians tried to warn us in August, 1968 that the VoltaMen were en-route to attack and conquer Earth, with the invasion actually occurring shortly after that!
We don't know exactly how long after then that the "present-day" adventures of Hunt Bowman and Lyssa take place, but it's likely less than a century...perhaps even around 2020!
Will Eon the Martian return...and bring his fellow aliens with him?
Note that artist George Evans is improving by leaps and bounds since his debut only a few months ago in #50 as shown HERE!
He's experimenting with perspective and "camera angles", showing much more drama and in the individual panels.
While not quite where he'll be when he works on EC Comics' sci-fi, horror, and war books several years down the line, it's exciting to see his evolution as an illustrator!

Best of Wednesday Worlds of Wonder LOST WORLD "Enter Hunt Bowman"

The Dreaded Deadline Doom has ensnared us...
...but we don't want to deprive you of Lost World, so here's a re-re-presentation of the premiere adventure!
Before KillRaven!
Before Kamandi!
There was...Hunt Bowman, the first post-apocalyptic series hero in comics!
This tale from Fiction House's Planet Comics #21 (1942) written by "Thorncliffe Herrick" (a Fiction House pen-name) and illustrated by Rudy Palais pretty efficiently introduces the main characters and concepts behind the series, which lasted from this issue to #70 in 1953!
The strip evolves over its' run, so be prepared for some surprises to go along with the cliches!
BTW, we mentioned KillRaven in our opening.
Roy Thomas' initial concept for Marvel's 1970s War of the Worlds sequel (which evolved into KillRaven) was inspired by this strip along with H G Wells' novel and Edgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter and Carson of Venus series!

Wednesday Worlds of Wonder LOST WORLD "VoltaMen Defeated?"

Or is this a sinister plot to catch the amazingly-effective Resistance off-guard?
New, but not-entirely trustworthy, allies are better than no allies...I hope!
Unfortunately, this series has a tendency to introduce potential situations and ongoing characters, then drop them!
Since the credited writer, Thorncliffe Herrick, is actually a house pen-name, there's no way of knowing how often scripters have been changed!

Wednesday Worlds of Wonder LOST WORLD "Project: Monster"

...the aliens try ever more innovative attempts to eliminate the freedom fighters!
The Venusian we see in this tale is apparently a member of a third race from that planet shown in this series, unlike the ones we saw HERE and HERE!
Whether this is sloppy editing, or part of an onoging plot point has yet to be revealed!
(BTW, almost every other series in Planet Comics had their own Venusians, Martians, etc..
But they tended to be consistent within their own strips!
