Space Hero Saturdays ZANY "Buck Dodgers" and "Flush Gordon"

A couple of comic strip parodies from one of the many MAD Magazine imitators...
From Candar's Zany #3 (1959), illustrated by Carl (Golden Age Human Torch) Burgos, writer unknown, though it might have been Burgos himself.
From Candar's Zany #2 (1958), artist and writer unknown.
Note: "Max Oboy" is a spoof of Mac Raboy, Golden Age Captain Marvel Jr and Green Lama comic artist who replaced Alex Raymond on the Flash Gordon Sunday strip from 1948 to his passing in 1967.
These HTF (and never-reprinted) space adventure parodies, were from Candar, which published risque titles like French Cartoons and Cuties and College Laughs.
Though Zany only ran four issues, it had a pretty damn good lineup of writers and artists including the aformentioned Burgos (who was also the editor for the first two issues), Bill Everett (who also painted all four front covers), Joe Sinnott, Dick Briefer, John Forte, Don Orehek, Morris Waldinger, Paul Reinman, and Pete Costanza!

Friday Fun HARVEY "Here's Harvey"

Here's the "origin" story of a red-headed Bronze Age Archie clone named Harvey published by Marvel...

...in its' final attempt at the teenage humor market!
Written by Stan Lee and illustrated in an extremely-Dan DeCarlo-esque style by Stan Goldberg, this never-reprinted story from Marvel's Harvey #1 (1970) was the final story in the first of only six issues in the title's brief run.
Judge for yourself as to why...
BTW, Harvey Hooper and his crew were a revamp of an earlier Atlas (pre-Marvel) humor title...
...which was an even more blatant Archie clone...and has also never been reprinted, despite scripts by Stan Lee and pretty good art by Hy Rosen!

Tales Twice Told STRANGE FANTASY "Monster in the Building!"

Remember this mellow little tale, which we presented HERE?

Well, hang on to your hats, because this is what it originally appeared as...

Was the Comics Code Authority justified in ordering the extensive changes to this tale from Ajax/Farrell's Strange Fantasy #14 (1954) we saw HERE?
What do you think?

...the short-lived DC Comics series added sword-and-sorcery/sci-fi/barbarian elements at the end of its' run!
To Be Continued

Tales Twice Told STRANGE JOURNEY "Hole in the Sky!"

At first glance, this looks like a typical 1950s sci-fi comics tale...
...flying saucers, aliens, and a misunderstanding between humans and "invaders".
A rather typical 1950s tale of a "misunderstood mellow alien".
Note: the cover features a uniformed policeman, rather than the plainclothes detective, confronting the alien!
This was the Comics Code-approved version.
For the original, uncensored, horror comics-era story, you'll have to come back on Thursday!
Art for both the story and cover for this tale from Ajax/Farrell's Strange Journey #2 (1957) by Ken Battefield and the Iger Studios staff.
The scripter is unknown.
