Wednesday Worlds of Wonder BRAK THE BARBARIAN "Sword and the Road"

Who is Brak the Barbarian?
Though we presented his first comic appearance last week, most current comics fans are totally-unaware of him!
So let's clear up the matter...
After this never-reprinted text feature from Marvel's Savage Tales V1N6 (1974), there were two more Brak short-story collections; When the Idols Walked (1978) and Fortunes of Brak (1980).
All the books were re-edited into the collection shown below.

Reading Room OUT OF THIS WORLD "Secret of Capt X"

Here's an "out of this world" tale...
...that, for the life of me, I still don't understand, even after re-reading it several times!
What the hell just happened?
This lovely Ditko-rendered story from Charlton's Out of This World #8 (1958) makes no sense!
Why couldn't the Korellans simply leave?
Why were they kidnapping and forcing others to adapt to their planet?
Since they can be moved to another planet with no ill effects, why remain on Korella?
Most experts blame Charlton mainstay Joe Gill for this silly story, but could someone else be responsible?
We'll never know...

Monday Madness MAN FROM S.R.A.M. "vs the Devil-Man from S.U.N.E.V."

Last week we presented the Man from S.R.A.M. in his only published adventure!
...but there's one more tale to be told!
Written by Otto Binder (with re-write by Editor Joe Simon?) and illustrated by George Tuska, this story produced for Harvey's never-published Jigsaw #3 features a different Martian form for the protaganist, as well as a different vehicle from the previous chapter!
At the same time, Tuska also drew all three issues of Harvey's SpyMan, another cross-genre (super hero/spy/sci-fi) series just before moving on to a long run as Marvel's primary Silver Age Iron Man artist after Gene Colan!

Design of the Week: HALLOWEEN HOLE-IN-THE-HEAD!

Each week, we post a limited-edition design, to be sold for exactly 7 days, then replaced with another!
This week...
With Halloween coming, it seems only appropriate that we go with scary themes for the next few weeks.
Kicking off our compilation of creepy collectibles is this ghoulishly-graphic image from one of the types of comic books that gave Dr Fredric Wertham such fits in the 1950s!
(Wertham was the psychiatrist who claimed that horror comics caused juvenile delinquency, resulting in the demise of the genre and the near-death of the comic book industry. Despite his heroic efforts, juvenile delinquency continued to flourish!)
Yeah, it's gruesome, but in a campy, cartoonish fashion!
Isn't that exactly what you're looking for in Halloween-wear?
