Joe Kubert's "So You Want to be a Cartoonist?"

Joe Kubert was one of the greatest multi-talented creatives in comics history...
...editor/writer/artist/letterer, and, most importantly, teacher.
This piece appeared in numerous DC Comics from 1969-1971, probably as the first of a series.
Most likely, due to his enormous workload, no other pages like this ever appeared.
But, the idea of instructing future creatives appealed to Kubert, and he eventually founded The Kubert School, which has superseded The School of Visual Arts (originally Cartoonists and Illustrators School) as the most prolific source of comics/graphic novel talent in America!
Trivia: The founders of both The Kubert School (Joe Kubert) and Cartoonists and Illustrators School (Burne Hogarth) were famed for their work on Tarzan!

Trump Reading Room STRANGE TALES "When a Planet Dies!"

Perhaps he thinks omnipotent aliens, like these guys frim Atlas' Strange Tales #97 (196x) cause climate change...
While the art is credited to Jack Kirby and Dick Ayers, who wrote the tale is not entirely clear.
A number of people, myself included, think it's scripted by Kirby himself.
(BTW, if you think I was looking for an excuse to re-run one of my favorite Kirby Klassics...you'd be right!)
When the story was reprinted in Marvel's Weird Wonder Tales #22 (1973), the splash page was reworked...
...combining the cover from a previous issue of Weird Wonder Tales that supplied the Dr Druid figure...
Art by Jack Kirby, John Romita (Dr Druid's face) and Joe Sinnott
 ...and the original splash page!
The production artist "flipped" a stat of the Dr Druid figure and fit it where the bearded aliens are on the original.
To paraphrase "the World's Most Interesting Man", stay cool, my friends!

Wonder Woman vs Supergirl!

With Wonder Woman headlining a new movie opening tomorrow...
...we thought this would be a good time to re-present their first battle royale, which has never been reprinted in color since its' initial publication in 1968 (49 years ago)!
You can read the tale, starting HERE at our "sister" RetroBlog Heroines!
It was also the penultimate appearance of the super-powered Wonder Woman in the Silver Age since a major change occurred in the next issue...
But that's a story my good friend Rip Jagger can tell you HERE...at his Dojo!

We'll be Gone for a Month...

...as we settle into new quarters!
No, it won't be quite as kool as the Batcave, but it will house our huge collections comfortably, and I'll finally be able to barbecue again!
Watch for our return on June 1st!
Edit: Discovered over a week of posts leading up to this didn't post on their intended dates, but they're up now, along with this one.
Google and Blogger have been giving me fits over the past couple of months.
I'll decide whether to switch to another platform when we return!
