Fantastic Femmes--Claudia Christian

If you believe in yourself, you're willing to take risks.
Claudia started auditioning for film and tv roles right out of high school, working part-time jobs to pay the bills, but keep herself available.
Within two years she began doing guest-star roles on various tv series and small roles in feature films, as well as landing regular spots on several (unfortunately) short-lived series.
Her breakout role was as kick-ass second-in-command Susan Ivanova on Babylon 5.
Since then, she's expanded her acting to live stage as well as animation voice-over and advertising work. (She's the voice of the Jaguar auto commercials.)
She's now living in London, working on her music and guest-starring on British tv and radio.
Trivia:
Has released four solo albums as well as a group album with fellow Babylon 5 cast members entitled The Be Five.

War is Hell--without Love!

We at Atomic Kommie Comics™ know that the path of true love is not always smooth, especially in wartime.
In tribute to the brave men and women of the armed forces, we've created a new section of True Love Comics Tales™ featuring military-oriented romance comic books entitled WarTime Love™ just in time for Memorial Day featuring greeting cards, teddy bears, clothing and a host of other goodies with vintage retro romance comic cover art.
Show your beloved, whether they're an officer, noncom, or GI Joe (or GI Jane), or the civilian waiting for you at home, that you're thinking of them on Memorial Day.

Happy Armed Forces Day

We at Atomic Kommie Comics™ wanted to thank all those who patronized our War: Past, Present & Future™ line for gifts for the veteran in your life, and to wish those who served a happy Armed Forces Day.

And to the veterans themselves,
a respectful "thank you" for your service to our country!

Kevin Smith's Green Hornet to be comic mini-series

As all us fanboys (and fangirls) know, before Seth Rogan's version of The Green Hornet was "green-lighted" (ahem), fan-turned-pro Kevin Smith was scheduled to write and direct a new film adaptation of the multi-media character.
Now, Dynamite Entertainment, who successfully revived classic characters Zorro, The Lone Ranger, Buck Rogers, and the 1940s heroes we at Atomic Kommie Comics™ classify as the Lost Heroes of the Golden Age of Comics™ in Alex Ross' Project SuperPowers, are also doing The Green Hornet, with one of the projects being a comic book mini-series of the un-produced script for the Kevin Smith film project!
Interestingly, he seems to have adapted several elements from the tv series including the domino mask (rather than the lower-face mask of the comics and radio show ad art or the full-face mask of the serials) and use of a "stinger" weapon, as well as the NOW Comics' female Kato! (and of course, having Alex Ross do the costume designs and cover art doesn't hurt!)

One request to the powers-that-be at Dynamite...
Kevin Smith has become notorious for his problems meeting deadlines on his comic book projects.
Hopefully, the fact that he's already worked out the plot and probably most of the script of the movie will enable him to produce the mini-series in a far more timely manner than his other oft-delayed work.
At any rate, please don't schedule publishing the mini until at least 3/4 of the script is in-house!

More on this as it develops...

Don Winslow: the clean-cut, All-American Navy Hero!

Perhaps the first comic strip to be created as a military recruiting tool, Don Winslow U.S.N. was launched in 1934 to encourage enlistments in the U.S. Navy, which at that point had reached an all-time low. A clean-cut role model for American Youth, Don battled spies, saboteurs, and criminals on the home front, and even made brief forays to both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of war!
The strip proved to be a big success, not only improving Naval enlistments, but launching a series of novels, comic books from several publishers, a dramatic radio show, and two movie serials (Don Winslow of the Navy & Don Winslow of the Coast Guard)!
Don finally retired from service in 1955.
Atomic Kommie Comics™ has returned Don Winslow to active duty as part of the War: Past, Present & Future™ line's enhanced World War II section of classic cover art collectibles which also includes Women of World War II and Aviators.
Any of the shirts, fridge magnets, mugs, or other kool kollectibles in these series would make fun retro-style Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July or Father's Day gifts for the veteran in your life!
(I sent a set of all four Don Winslow mugs to my Dad, a retired swabbie, last year!)

For the Guys in the Foxhole...

After seeing Ken Burns' The War, we at Atomic Kommie Comics™ thought of doing something in the same vein, showing the gritty, dramatic, truth in honest, non-romanticised terms. Not like Sgt. Fury or Our Army at War, but something that would pay respect to the dogfaces and leathernecks who actually won the war!
We proudly present... our World War II line , classic comic images drawn by veterans, for veterans, history and WWII buffs, or anyone who admires the men and women who put their lives on the line to stop true evil from conquering the world, not because they wanted to, but because they had to!
We've digitally-restored and remastered them on a line of kool kollectibles which would make perfect Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, or 4th of July gifts for the WWII veteran in your life.
Choose from t-shirts, mugs, magnets, BBQ aprons, and many other goodies.
What better way to say "thank you" to the guys or gals of the "Greatest Generation" for what they did for the world?

(And have a look at the other collectibles we offer at War: Past, Present & Future™ while you're at it!)

Tribute to World War II Aviator Collectibles

Comic books played a major part in shaping the public's impression of both our troops and our enemies during World War II.
Among the classiest were these three beautiful covers for Contact Comics, an aviation-oriented title. Spectacular, intense, eye-catching color highlights these poster-style pieces of art.
Each one paid honor to the aviation division of one of the three armed forces branches. (The Air Force as a separate branch didn't come about until after WWII)

Tribute to the Navy Air Corps
featuring F6F Hellcat fighters.
featuring B-24 Liberator heavy bombers.

Tribute to the Marine Air Corps
featuring F4U Corsair fighters.

We at Atomic Kommie Comics™ have digitally-restored and remastered them on a line of kool kollectibles which would make perfect Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, or 4th of July gifts for the WWII veteran in your life.
Choose from t-shirts, mugs, magnets, BBQ aprons, and many other goodies.

Star Trek is here--Beam me up!

If you're willing to accept Crisis on Infinite Earths and it's aftermath (plus Batman Begins onward and the various other DC-related film / tv series), Ultimate Marvel Universe, "One More Day", and the various Marvel-based films and tv series (Hell, Punisher was rebooted twice!), the Godzilla Heisei and Millenium films, Battlestar Galactica [2003-09],or the Eon James Bond 007 films from Casino Royale [2006] on, then you'll go with this for what it is...a reboot / alternate universe with some interesting twists.

And unlike most of the other film /tv series, this one acknowledges the fact that it's an alternate universe!
(Comics on the other hand, enjoy pointing out when they reboot! Go figure!) ;-)

Kombat Kleavage!

Take a look at this cover.
At first glance, a variation on the Starship Troopers theme of armored infantry.
Note that two of the three soliders are also wearing helmets.
The third one isn't, presumably because she's the protagonist, and we have to see her face to identify her.
It's not the brightest move to go into combat without protection to your head; but, again, there is "marketing logic" to doing so.

Now take a look at the "alternate" cover...
1) She's looking in one direction and firing in another (hopefully not hitting one of her comrades in the process).
2) She's shooting left-handed. The other cover shows her as right-handed. Is she ambidextrous?
3) Where's her helmet? There are no other characters present, so just having her name on her chestplate should cover identifying her character!
4) Slight problem with my solution to #3--she doesn't have a chestplate! What sort of idiots armor every square inch of a body except the head and chest?
Hormonally-driven idiots who want to see a buxom woman's cleavage--even if it gets her killed!

Curiously, on the inside of the book, her armor comes all the way up to her chin, and she has a helmet, which she wears when facing the enemy!
It's sloppy cover art direction, it's misleading, and it's gratutitous.

This is exactly the sort of prurient-interest image an up-and-coming Wertham would use to start another Seduction of the Innocent crusade!

Don't the creators believe that their story and characters are good enough to attract the target audience without resorting to this sort of bullsh!t?

And, the real killer is that this is a relatively-mild example of this sort of thing!

Fantastic Femmes--Ciara

Ciara Princess Harris has done quite a number of things in her relatively-short life...modeling, acting, singing, writing, producing, even video directing.
Now, she's taking a crack at portraying a super-heroine on the concept album Fantasy Ride, which comes out this Tuesday, as well as tie-in videos and a live concert tour.
It's her first foray into the sci-fi / fantasy genre. Hopefully, it won't be her last.
(BTW: The good-girl comic art is by noted DC / Marvel / Valiant artist Bernard Chang.)
